We spend the time needed to gain an understanding of our clients' goals, values and concerns. Although many family law matters can be contentious, we believe that the best result is often achieved by finding creative solutions to difficult issues.
Nelson Krueger and Millenbach replied the same day to my inquiry, but said they do not practice in Sauk County. If hearings are remote/phone, I don't see why they couldn't have explored taking my case. Either way, prompt notification, at least.

Working with Attorney Nelson during my divorce was a nightmare. She was completely uncooperative and treated me like a child. She took advantage of the fact that I was leaving an abusive marriage by acting sympathetic initially, groomed me, and then ended up using all the same manipulation tactics that my ex did. That was traumatizing. Attorney Nelson deliberately held up my divorce and filed motions against my wishes that had no impact on my case. She ignored my requests and charged me for the time she spent writing and filing them and for the argument we had about this. She called me a “idiot” and said I was combative when I asserted myself in any way. She and my ex’s attorney argued the same points circularly to rack up billing hours without even trying to disguise it. She informed me that the judge didn’t care about my case, stating there are people in family court with “real problems.” Lastly she took no measures to protect me against my abusive ex which had significant consequences for me. Didn’t even bother to have my new address redacted from the documentation despite my requests. You are better off representing yourself.

I worked with Attorney Krueger throughout the duration of my divorce proceedings and always felt supported emotionally, confident in her legal acumen, and impressed with her timely and comprehensive communication. In our one-on-one meetings, Alison was warm and assuring; her humanness put me at ease. In hearings, however, she sparkled. I was often in awe of her poised professionalism; the competent manner in which she articulated our positions or proposals always made me proud that she was representing me.
While I worked most closely with Alison, I had similar experiences with her lovely assistant, Alexis. I recall feeling embarrassed and vulnerable the first time I walked into a legal office, but Alexis was warm, friendly, and non-judgmental. I was similarly impressed by how the firm functions as a team. When Attorney Krueger left on a planned vacation during a pivotal time in my case, she updated another partner on the particulars of me case so that I was never without legal representation or personal support should I need it.
Divorce, for me, shook my confidence and diminished my self-esteem. Working with this firm, with this staff as role models, helped build me back up.

I cannot say enough good things about my experience. My attorney, Alison, took over my case from another firm at my request. She jumped right in and got to know me and guided me through one of the most stressful periods of my life with compassion, clarity, and unwavering advocacy. She was responsive, thorough, and always made sure I understood my options. I felt truly supported every step of the way once she took over. I’m deeply grateful for her expertise and the peace of mind she gave me.

I am very pleased with the service provided from Nelson, Krueger & Millenbach, LLC. When my first attorney transitioned to another area of law, I was able to stay with NKM and work with another attorney. Both were knowledgeable, professional, and thorough. I never felt as if I was in the dark about my case. Thank you so much for all of your help. It is greatly appreciated.
Frequently Asked Questions About Nelson, Krueger & Millenbach, LLC
Can I get a divorce if my spouse won’t sign?
Yes, in Wisconsin either spouse can obtain a divorce, even if the other party objects. A “contested divorce” is a dispute over the details of divorce, but a spouse cannot make you stay married.
What is the purpose of a legal separation?
A legal separation allows spouses to live apart and maintain separate finances without dissolving the marriage. Spouses might stay married for religious reasons or in hopes of reconciliation, or for practical reasons such as staying on a spouse’s health insurance.
How can a father win a custody battle?
The law does not favor either parent in determining custody. A father seeking primary custody must demonstrate to the court that he has been the primary caregiver, that he can provide a more stable environment or that it is in the child’s best interests to live with Dad.
How is child support calculated?
The Wisconsin child support guidelines are based on the number of children, the percentage of placement and the incomes of both parents. If the child lives more than 75% of the time with one parent, the formula is based on a percentage of the other parent’s income.
Can a dissolution be changed?
In general, you cannot change a property settlement after the divorce decree (dissolution) is issued. But either party can ask the court to modify custody, child support or spousal maintenance orders if there has been a significant change in circumstances.
