  I selected the Sutherland Law Firm for an adoption case after researching multiple firms across the Dallas area. From the very first meeting, it was clear how caring and compassionate both Shirley and the Office Manager, Amanda, truly are. The case and entire process were thoroughly organized, the legal fees were fair, and the end result was everything we hoped for. I highly recommend giving this firm the opportunity to consult on your family law needs.

  Shirley was the ad litem for our daughter in a personal injury case. To say we were displeased with her services is an understatement. I usually take the high road and don’t leave reviews when wronged, but this one needs attention. Due to the nature and extreme stressful circumstances of this case, my ex wife and I ended our marriage amicably. Instead of trying to understand what actually happened (and even before meeting me), she made a bold and wild claim that our marriage was “doomed from the beginning”. If that doesn’t shock you enough, she had the audacity to refer to my daughter’s case as “only a fondling case” when it was ANYTHING but. These two comments we felt were aimed to minimize what happened and should immediately disqualify her from representing any minor child in the future. These comments were just the tip of the iceberg. Shirley would continuously act nice to our face while talking horribly and unprofessionally behind our back. During the time we had to deal with Shirley, I felt like she wanted be a part of the defense team (and their outlandish claims) while completely discounting the minor victim and her family. She continuously made similar disparaging, contradictory, unfounded, and minimizing comments just like the defense did throughout the case. It left us to question the legitimacy of the legal process that much more. How are ad litems, like Shirley, given so much discretion and power? She certainly pushed the boundaries with us. Moreover, she delayed our case months on end, wasted time and resources, and caused un needed stress, forcing us to contemplate on applying to have a new, more competent ad litem assigned to the case. We even had to call an emergency hearing with the judge because Shirley continued to try to delay the case, which again only helped the defense, not the minor child! During one of the most difficult times of our lives, this should never happen to anyone! As the victims’ parents, we felt very unsupported by someone that should have been advocating for our family (at minimum, our minor child) in this matter, not throwing insults at all three of us. Talk about adding insult to injury. Shirley’s overreach and misguided approach in this case was just so bizarre. No wonder she’s been sanctioned/reprimanded by the courts for her negligence in the past. Hopefully families going through tough situations don’t have to go through what we did while also having to deal with someone as harmful and incompetent as this person. Lastly, I will quote the attorneys for my daughter whom, in Shirley’s words, got a “fantastic outcome.” “I have no problem putting in writing that this Ad Litem was one of the worst individuals I have ever worked with regarding a serious case such as this, and her incompetence added tremendous and unnecessary stress to the conclusion of this case, and forced us to change plans which were out of our control.” Hopefully if you read this far you can understand how I reached the one star review. Too bad there isn’t a zero option because she is more than deserving of it.

  I honestly don’t know how I would have gotten through this without Shirley. This was one of the hardest things I’ve ever been through, and having someone I trusted in my corner made a huge difference. This was a difficult case, and there was a lot coming from the opposing side throughout the process. There were plenty of frustrating moments, delays, and challenges, but Shirley stayed focused and continued to push things forward. Shirley was always straightforward with me. She didn’t just tell me what I wanted to hear—she told me what I needed to hear. She knew when it was time to be patient and when it was time to push back and fight for me. She knows family law, understands the process, and genuinely cared about what was best for me and my boys. I never felt like I was just another client. I’m extremely grateful for everything Shirley did for me and my family. She worked hard, stood up for me when I needed it, and always made me feel like she had my back. I would absolutely recommend Shirley to anyone going through a difficult family law situation.

  Let me start by saying they jumped into a highly contested situation and got me the best outcome I could’ve hoped for. Shirley was great and Amanda was as well and they made sure they went above and beyond to help me in my situation and protect my son to the best of their ability. Divorce is hard….make no mistake though that Shirley and Amanda know exactly what they are doing. Learn from my mistakes and do exactly what they tell you to do when it comes to your case and don’t let your emotions get in the way. You want the best in the area you found them right here.
