  One Star — Think Very Carefully Before Hiring Richard McConathy My experience with Richard McConathy was one of the most disappointing parts of an already terrifying chapter in my life. I hired him while facing accusations that threatened my freedom, my children, my reputation, and my entire future. I needed a lawyer who would take control of the case, give clear direction, investigate aggressively, and treat my situation like the emergency it was. That is not what I felt I received. In my experience, much of the actual work appeared to be pushed onto another attorney, while I was left without the leadership, preparation, and communication I expected from the lawyer whose name I hired. Court appearances felt like someone was simply showing up, standing before the judge, and going through the motions while important work remained unfinished. What made matters worse was the money situation. Shortly before a court date, I was told that additional money was required. I was given only a few days’ notice, and I did not receive the kind of clear accounting or explanation that would have made me comfortable paying more. When I refused, my representation ended. I was left trying to pick up the pieces while facing one of the most serious criminal cases imaginable. My later court-appointed attorney reviewed the condition of the case and told me that important matters had been left undone. That was devastating to hear because I had already paid for representation during a time when every day, every filing, and every missed opportunity mattered. Eventually, with different counsel, I went to trial before a Dallas County jury and was found NOT GUILTY ON ALL CHARGES. Seeing the difference between an attorney who merely occupies the position and one who truly prepares, listens, investigates, and fights was eye-opening. My honest opinion is that I did not feel cared for. I felt like money was given more urgency than my freedom, my family, or the quality of my defense. That is exactly the kind of experience that gives criminal-defense lawyers a bad reputation. Do not hire someone based only on advertising, a polished website, or a recognizable name. Ask who will actually handle your case. Ask what work has been completed. Ask for billing details. Ask what the strategy is. And pay close attention if you feel like you are being passed around while your life hangs in the balance. This review reflects my personal experience and opinions. Based on that experience, I would not recommend Richard McConathy to anyone facing a case where their freedom and family are at risk. Hire Paul Johnson or his son Taylor Johnson instead.

  Hiring Richard McConathy was one of the most regrettable decisions I made during the darkest and most frightening period of my life. I was facing accusations that threatened my freedom, my reputation, my relationship with my children, and everything I had spent my life building. I did not need someone to simply have their name listed as my attorney. I needed an advocate. I needed someone who understood that this was not paperwork to me—this was my entire life. Instead, my experience left me feeling unsupported, uncertain, and ultimately abandoned when he withdrew from my case. When a person hires a criminal-defense attorney, especially while facing allegations this severe, they are placing an extraordinary amount of trust in that lawyer. They are trusting that person with their freedom, their family, and their future. In my experience, the level of reassurance, dedication, and confidence I desperately needed was simply not there. What makes this even more difficult to accept is knowing how differently the case eventually looked once I had an attorney who truly prepared, listened, investigated, and fought for me. I later went before a Dallas County jury and was found NOT GUILTY ON ALL CHARGES. That result did not happen because I gave up. It happened because I continued fighting after my first legal representation fell apart. I am sharing this because people looking for a defense attorney are often scared, vulnerable, and unsure whom they can trust. A polished website and a recognizable name are not enough. Ask hard questions. Pay attention to how you are treated. Make sure the person you hire understands that your case is not just another file—it is your life. This review reflects my personal experience and opinion. Based on that experience, I could not recommend Richard McConathy to someone whose freedom and family are on the line.
