Alissa, I would give her 10 Stars if I could. My son was in some serious trouble for several serious felonies and he pleaded to one misdemeanor. I think I developed ulcers from worrying, but she keeps me at ease, always returning calls, always answering questions, and always keeping me informed; most importantly, she was honest with me the whole time. She even listened when I needed to vent. Truly an angel, and I will always have a special place in my heart for her, as she helped me through one of the most difficult times in my life. I would recommend her to anyone in need of a lawyer. Please give her a call; you won't regret it.

I can’t recommend a better criminal defense attorney than Alissa. She is simply amazing! From the very beginning, she was professional, responsive, and incredibly knowledgeable. She helped me with a speeding ticket that my son received while living in Columbia, SC while in college. We did everything she told us to do from start to finish. So, if you’re looking for a criminal defense attorney who truly advocates for her clients and is hard working, she is the one! I’m extremely grateful for her help and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to anyone who needs strong legal representation or use her again myself in the future if needed. I cannot thank Alissa enough for her expertise!!!!!

Frequently Asked Questions About ALW Law

What should I do immediately after being charged with a crime in Columbia, SC?

If you are charged in Columbia or anywhere in Richland or Lexington County, do not discuss your case with anyone other than your attorney. Do not attempt to “explain” your side to law enforcement. Early statements often create long-term exposure. The first 48 hours are critical. Court dates, bond conditions, and protective orders can shape the direction of the case before evidence is even reviewed. Strategic defense begins with early intervention.

Do I need a criminal defense attorney for a misdemeanor?

Yes. Even misdemeanor charges in South Carolina can carry jail time, fines, probation, and a permanent criminal record. Many misdemeanor cases in Columbia Municipal Court and Richland County Magistrate Court involve hidden consequences — employment restrictions, firearm limitations, or immigration implications. Early legal evaluation often prevents minor charges from escalating into lasting damage.
