PLEASE READ before hiring attorney Jack Moser. I retained Attorney Jack Moser’s office to handle my divorce, and it was the biggest mistake I could have made. I needed an aggressive attorney to help me through a divorce from my abusive and controlling ex. Moser represented himself as exactly that. He charged me a $21,000 retainer, telling me the unusually high fee would “motivate [him] to handle the case quickly.” Although the retainer was much larger than any other attorney I consulted, I believed it would be worth it because I was promised swift action. I originally wanted to file a dissolution, but Moser advised against it, telling me my fees could ultimately be higher and that he believed my ex was hiding assets. I followed his advice and retained him for a divorce. After I hired the firm, my case was handed to another attorney. He was professional and pleasant, and after reviewing my case, he suggested that my ex as I file a dissolution since we agreed on most issues. That was what I had wanted from the beginning. The plan was simple: draft a preliminary agreement, see whether we were close, and, if not, proceed with divorce. Jack strongly opposed that approach. After the preliminary agreement was drafted, my case sat for approximately eight weeks with virtually no progress. During that time, Jack called me once. Not to move the case forward, but to criticize my decision to pursue dissolution instead of divorce. The call ended with me in tears after explaining that I believed dissolution was in my best interest. I never heard from him again. As my emails and calls went unanswered, I contacted the Mount Vernon office and was berated by Michael (paralegal) who accused me of manipulating the attorney, wanting everyone “at my beck and call,” and trying to control the situation. This occurred simply because I wanted to pursue dissolution. I later learned the attorney I had been working with was actually a paralegal and could not move my case forward without Jack’s involvement, leaving my case effectively stalled. That particular paralegal and I both shared frustrations over the stalled process. After being berated and no movement on my case for eight weeks, all I had received was a two-page draft agreement that did not address major issues such as child support. I terminated the representation. I also dispute the firm’s billing practices. Before I hired them, they repeatedly called, emailed, and invited me to meetings to encourage me to retain them. I was later billed for those communications, including time spent signing the fee agreement and the calls during which I was berated. They ultimately refunded part of my retainer, but I remain in an active fee dispute. After I complained about the paralegal’s conduct, I received no apology or acknowledgment. When I picked up my refund check, the same employee met with me and behaved in the same disrespectful manner talking over me, raising his voice and even held the check taunting me with it. This experience left me feeling ignored after paying a substantial retainer for representation I believed would be proactive and responsive. Instead, I experienced long periods of silence, conflict over the direction of my case, and billing that I continue to dispute. It is my belief that Jack Moser has no integrity. It is my belief that he is the kind of man that will manipulate a lot of money from an abused woman with empty promises. It is my belief that he is the kind of man that will berate his clients for “not listening to him”. It is my belief that he is the kind of man to let others treat his clients disrespectfully and not do anything to protect his clients. Is that the kind of man you want to hire?
