Sonya DuBree is a third generation Raleigh native with extensive ties to the Raleigh community that she loves calling home. For most of her life, she has lived and worked within a five-mile radius of the old Rex Hospital where she was born. She received her doctorate from the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law in 1994 and immediately started practicing family law with Marshall and DuBree, PLLC. When Bill Marshall retired, she opened up Raleigh Family Law in an office building she bought a stone’s throw from where she was born.

- GSGretchen SchwartzMay 26, 20261.0Sonya is just another example of why Shakespeare wrote "First thing we do, kill all the lawyers." She was the 2nd attorney (or 3rd, I literally lost track of who was handling my case along the way, as did everyone at Tharrington Smith apparently) that my case was handed-off to after Clare Poston went on maternity leave (a fact they neglected to mention prior to me paying my $10,000 retainer) and she is cold and callous. You want a certain amount of "prickliness" in your lawyer(s), but she is just cruel and unfeeling, I didn't even have her name right during our first meeting as I thought she was Carolyn (whom I never actually did meet even though she was assigned to my case...) There are far better family lawyers than those to be had at Tharrington Smith, they think their name carries "clout" but they could care less about individuals and will drop your case without notice the moment a bigger fish comes along. I have documentation to support this review and I just hope it helps somebody else keep their wards out of imminent danger.

I agree that she is the best lawyer money can buy locally. I'm glad to have her on my side fighting for me! I recommend her practice to local friends all of the time. She usually only works with people living in Wake County, just FYI.
