Disrespectful!
The People Below this review are both my parents, and they both promised that this was going to only be a “45 Day process”. Turns out this would be a 213 Day process if not more. From a sideline standpoint, it looked like the paralegal had no idea what they were doing. The Proof is after we went and filled out all the paperwork to start this process, we were told quite some time later that there was actually more to fill out that they had forgot. That was the first delay of many. We were also told by the county that this would have been way quicker than the 7 months it took (and we wouldn’t have needed a home visit more than likely) if the initial paperwork included more information.
To be honest, I have heard great things about Jeremy, we have used him in many past cases and he had handled it professionally. I must be honest I was shocked, and confused when he couldn’t have this done in a fast professional manner.
Not to mention he has experience with my brother with this exact same thing so it makes no sense why this could not been handled better by him.
I have waited a very long 14 years to try and get rid of my original last name. Those years were to say the least torturous, and the fact that both him, and his team wouldn’t take me and my family seriously was probably the most I have ever been disrespected in my entire life.
It truly sucks getting pumped knowing your day would be coming soon only to take more than half a year.

Never again will we use this law firm!
We have been using Jeremy for years and had good service on previous cases and adoptions. However, things went downhill quickly when he moved and joined this firm. This was our second step-parent adoption, and it went absolutely terrible.
There was zero communication unless we reached out, and even then, it would take days or weeks to hear back. When Jeremy owned Pendland Law Firm and his name was on the door, he would return calls promptly or even answer when you called. He would even text me—I still have his personal number.
On top of that, my wife had to call and practically educate the paralegal assigned to our case on how this should have been filed with the courthouse. We later found out from Murray County that the case was filed incorrectly and could have been completed much faster if it had been handled properly from the beginning.
We were sold a “45-day easy case,” just like the previous time, and we even paid in full on day one. That was a big mistake trusting an attorney like this.
Our whole plan was to have this completed before school started so our son wouldn’t have to go through the embarrassment of explaining a name change halfway through the year. If you want to keep your child’s trust, do not depend on this firm. We promised him this would be done in “45 days,” just like Mr. Pendland promised us while looking us in the eyes.
We finally received the new birth certificate, opened it up, and what did we find? Wrong name for my wife’s birth name. Yes—one more mistake by these “professionals.”
We were also notified the day before our court date that Jeremy would not be able to attend. They sent someone we had never met, who barely knew anything about our case. After we paid in full, we never heard from him again.
The worst part is that we never had a single negative interaction with him in the beginning. He made us feel right at home during our initial consultation, which made this whole experience even more disappointing.
Believe the bad reviews when you read them.
DO NOT TRUST THEM. Take your money somewhere else.
This review is based on my personal opinions and experience.

We retained Jeremy for a step-parent adoption and unfortunately had an extremely frustrating and disappointing experience.
Communication was virtually nonexistent. Phone calls were not returned, the attorney himself was unreachable, and the paralegal rarely provided updates unless we repeatedly followed up. Even then, many of our questions went unanswered, and it became clear that the paralegal assigned to our case was not well-versed in step-parent adoptions or the specifics of our file.
We were initially told the process would take approximately 45 days. In reality, it took over seven months. During this time, we received little to no explanation for the delays. We later learned from the clerk’s office that the original paperwork could have been completed more accurately, which would have avoided several unnecessary steps and shortened the timeline.
Adding to the frustration, the attorney did not personally appear at our court hearing and instead sent another lawyer from his office, which we were not properly prepared for and informed only 1 day prior.
This was especially disappointing because we had used this attorney on 3 prior occasions and believed we had an established professional relationship. That history made the lack of attention, communication, and accountability during such an important and emotional process even more upsetting.
The prolonged delay created real consequences for our family. We had planned for the adoption to be finalized before the start of the school year to avoid our son having to change his last name mid-year. Because of the delays, this did not happen, causing unnecessary stress and embarrassment for our child.
A step-parent adoption should be handled with care, urgency, and clear communication. Unfortunately, this office failed on all fronts. We have waited 4 months now to receive the updated birth certificate. We did receive it today. However, it’s not even correct and will need to be fixed. I cannot recommend this firm based on our experience and would strongly encourage you to hire elsewhere.
UPDATE- after contacting the state that issued my son’s birth certificate, it turns out they were sent the wrong information. Don’t trust this law office. You are better off representing yourself.

I just needed to file a change of custody that my ex and I agreed upon. The firm was quick to start the process when they thought we were going to go to court. When they found out that wasn't the case I couldn't get ANYTHING done. I had to sit outside the office to get a response after 6-7 calls and a few emails. Almost two years later, and literally nothing has been completed, and now I can't even get them to just dismiss the damn case! Do NOT recommend this firm at ALL!!
