Hiring this firm was one of my biggest regrets. From the beginning, I was told I had a strong case — but I walked away with the exact same outcome I would have gotten without spending thousands of dollars. I worked with one attorney the entire time, but on my court date, a completely different attorney I had never met showed up. I told them many times I couldn’t afford to pay the bills, (that was what his lawyers wanted me to do) but the only option I was given still left me paying for them — the exact same result I would have gotten anyway. I never felt like they had my best interest in mind. Instead, I felt rushed into decisions, pressured when I was already in financial crisis, and spoken to like I was stupid. John spoke to me with no respect, spoke over me, and as if he wasn’t on my side. They made feel like a burden, like I was the problem, and like I was fighting them instead of the other side. I left this process feeling humiliated, broke, and completely unheard. I’m still married and spent thousands of dollars for TEMPORARY ORDERS! If you are looking for a lawyer who will actually listen, explain your options, and fight for you when you are at your most vulnerable, I would strongly recommend going elsewhere.

Go somewhere else and get an attorney that isnt wasting your time and money, and might actually care enough to pay attention to your case. My gf recently used them and here's a list of things she experienced... - Taking $1500 for an easy filing that shouldn't have taken that much time or money. - Using almost $1k on interviewing a witness they didn't subpoena who didn't testify and still charging. - Multiple phone calls charging by the minute only to ask the same questions either because they didn't prep themselves before or didn't remember. - Interrupting the client during the calls and not letting the client explain the situation, leading to further confusion and their misunderstanding of facts. - Misconstruing facts on a timeline after it was given to them in detail in order to prep for court. - Handing off the case to multiple attorneys all the way up to the day of the trial where they show up with an attorney who knew absolutely nothing about the case and fumbled during negotiations. Had to call into other attorneys to ask questions in the front of the court room to find out whats going on. These guys are clearly out for the money, don't care, and are not organized enough to be effective for someone in need of actual help because they will milk you extravagantly for every penny only to be ineffective assistance of counsel. My gf depleted her savings and 401k only to be unheard, charged, and brought to court with someone who knew nothing about her case. Bang up job.

I gave a 2 star because eventually we got passed the custody phase for my neice so they deserved the courtesy of at least that. I was told to wait 6 months after custody was final and then we'd file for adoption. At the 6 month mark, mind you I was very patient, I called, texted, emailed, and left voicemails for both John Izzo and Merideth Semler for months. I waited days and sometimes weeks between contact attempts. Spoke to their assistant many times and was assured I'd receive a call. After wasting months I gave up and found new counsel. Shame on me for allowing such unprofessional business practices for so long. A courtesy call, email, or SOMETHING would have been nice if they had become to busy for my case. I sure hope you don't treat all of your clients this way. As a business owner myself I can't imagine doing this to someone. Especially in a case as sensitive as adoption. Shame on me for allowing this to carry on so long but shame on you for your unprofessional and careless way of doing business.

Didn’t even get past consultation. John Izzo did not even allow me to speak and talked over me. As a business owner myself, this is terrible customer service! Especially to a potential client!!

I cannot say enough wonderful things about John and his team. He was my second attorney that I hired for my divorce. They made me feel very important and put my mind at ease.I was going through a very uncomfortable nasty divorce, of course you feel very vulnerable and scared in these situations. John and Meredith really cared about me and my specific situation with custody of my daughter and my assets! My first attorneys all they cared about was money, unfortunately like many other divorce attorneys. I ended up firing them and going with John and his team!!!! I’m so glad that I did.

Frequently Asked Questions About Izzo & Associates, PLLC

Can we use the same attorney for a family-related lawsuit if we agree on what needs to be done?

In Texas, one attorney cannot represent both parties due to ethical reasons. One party can engage an attorney to negotiate an uncontested settlement, which, if agreed upon, can be submitted to the court.

Should I consult a lawyer about divorce before my spouse?

Yes, consulting a family law attorney first is advisable to understand your rights and ensure protection during legal proceedings.
