- KAKatelyn AdamsAug 6, 20251.0If you’re in a custody or domestic violence case, I urge you to avoid hiring William Balkun. His actions — and inactions — put me and my children at serious risk. Despite being fully informed of my active protection order, Mr. Balkun filed court motions with my confidential home address and sent them directly to my abuser by email and mail. Even after I terminated him and reminded him that the protection order was listed in the NCIC system, he continued filing motions that disclosed my protected address. In court, when I referenced the protection order, it became painfully clear he had not even read my file. He appeared unfamiliar with basic facts I had already provided, and he did not review any of the evidence I submitted until after our court date. He also: • Failed to file emergency motions to protect me and my children • Failed to file the protection order with the court, despite being in possession of it • Failed to explain my legal options — which I only learned about through a free consultation with another attorney • Has ignored all follow-up emails where I requested clarification and a copy of my full client file His lack of preparation, communication, and accountability left me vulnerable and forced me to take over my case on my own to keep myself and my children safe. This was one of the most traumatic legal experiences of my life. If you’re seeking an attorney to advocate for your rights and protect your safety, especially in cases involving domestic violence or children, William Balkun is not that attorney.
