My experience with Attorney Aleyease Jones raises significant concerns regarding transparency, professional ethics, and fair consumer practices—especially for vulnerable families navigating DCFS and juvenile court matters.
I was referred to Ms. Jones for representation in a DCFS case. Before providing any basic fee information, I was informed that her office “does not provide rates” unless I paid a $150 consultation fee. Wanting clarity and legal guidance, I paid the fee. During the consultation, she prayed with me and presented what appeared to be a straightforward fee structure: a flat fee with a cap. Based on this representation, I believed I understood the financial scope of retaining her services.
However, when the written retainer agreement arrived, it bore no resemblance to the terms discussed during the call. The contract outlined:
• A $5,000 retainer,
• A $450/hour rate,
• A $700 per-appearance charge,
• Additional administrative fees and open-ended billing language.
The sudden shift from a capped, flat-fee representation to an open-ended, high-cost hourly model was not only unexpected but financially unrealistic for the majority of DCFS-involved families—over 80% of whom statistically come from severe or extreme poverty. The fee structure presented in writing appeared disproportionate and inconsistent with the economic realities of the population she advertises to serve.
I attempted multiple times, by both phone and email, to obtain clarification on why the written agreement contradicted the oral representations made during the consultation. As soon as I raised these concerns, communication effectively ceased. Calls were not returned, emails were not acknowledged, and no explanation or revised agreement was provided.
From a consumer protection perspective, this sequence of events is deeply problematic. Transparency regarding fees is a core expectation of legal services. Ethical practice requires that attorneys provide clear, accurate, and consistent information prior to charging clients—particularly clients in crisis seeking representation for complex and emotionally charged DCFS matters. Instead, I was left with the impression that the consultation fee was collected without meaningful follow-through, and that the retainer agreement contained terms that were neither disclosed nor agreed upon during the consultation.
Professionally and ethically, clients should never be placed in a position where they are encouraged to rely on trust, prayer, or emotion in place of clear, written, and honest communication. The absence of responsiveness after I questioned the discrepancies was especially alarming and left me feeling misled at a moment when stability and clarity were critical.
While every consumer must make their own decisions, I strongly urge anyone considering retaining this attorney to request all fee structures in writing prior to paying any consultation fee, and to thoroughly review any retainer agreement for inconsistencies. In my experience, the lack of transparency, inconsistent communication, and abrupt disengagement raised substantial concerns regarding fairness, professionalism, and ethical obligations owed to prospective clients. I wish I was able to upload the retainer agreement and email communication as I would. For the office to suggest I leave negative reviews as “plural” is just another attempt to speak to and support my review above.
