  I hired you, Mr. Penland, to protect my children from the abuse they were experiencing under their father. I trusted you with everything I had because my kids were depending on you to fight for them when I no longer had the strength or knowledge to do it alone. Instead, you abandoned my case and left me with no meaningful options. Because of your failure to represent me, I was left with the impossible decision to relinquish my parental rights—not out of choice, but out of desperation and complete lack of legal support. You knew the urgency and severity of what my children were going through. I told you my kids were being abused, depressed, and scared, and you treated it like it didn’t matter. Now my son is gone. Jonathan Arehart is dead. And while nothing can bring him back, I will never forget that the money I paid you—money I desperately needed to secure real representation for my children—was wasted on someone who walked away the moment things became difficult. My children deserved someone who would fight for them. You chose not to. I’ll live every day with the consequences.
