Don’t walk but run away from this attorney . Very dishonest . However, if you made the mistake of hiring her , DO NOT speak to her on the phone . She will tell you whatever you need to hear to get you to open your wallet .

Ms. McNelis did an outstanding job handling a case for my mother. She calmed us down and guided us towards a satisfying resolution. Without her and her team, we would have been lost trying to navigate a misdemeanor traffic case. I highly recommend this law firm, they treated our case as a priority and kept us in the loop over the months it took to work with the state. I hope I don’t have to call for her services again, but I feel better knowing that I have an excellent lawyer on my family’s side.

In 2008, I was referred to Stacey McNelis through a military lawyer referral program at Fort Shafter, HI. I explained my situation to Ms. McNelis and gave me legal advice that I followed exactly, which caused me to lose custody of my son for two years. I hired her immediately after an emergency motion was filed against me in Polk County. At the hearing, she allowed the judge to threaten kidnapping charges against me without speaking up to tell the judge that she was the one who told me I could legally pick up my son the way I did. For a year, I worked with Ms. McNelis from Hawaii, in a completely different time zone. She constantly charged me full rates (in ten minute increments) for voicemails I would have to leave and emails due to the time difference. Her assistant at the time, Yesenia, was very helpful but I normally spoke with her and got charged just to turn around and have to speak with Ms. McNelis and get charged again. After paying her over $7,000, a year later, with no movement on my case, I terminated her services and hired another attorney. Within a year, I was at a final hearing and was awarded custody of my son again. After my hearing, I contacted Ms. McNelis and asked her to refund half of my fees for her overcharging me and not being able to progress on my case. She refused. I am still active duty Army, and aside from the money I wasted on her services (or lack thereof), my son still deals with emotional scarring because he was forced to remain in an unsafe home due to Ms. McNelis’ initial failures through her unsound legal advice.

First of all, if this is your first divorce (which I'm assuming for most it is), I suggest that you first know and understand FL laws pertaining to divorce / children. Stacey & all other divorce lawyers are not magic genies or fairy godmothers that will make all of your troubles go away. Divorce sucks & your life will change! I learned quickly that this was not my mama's divorce. Everything that my mom went through back in the 90s (full custody, was able to move out of state with my brother and I, placed a restraining order on my father, etc all without the blink of an eye) It was just an easy peasy divorce for her, but that's definitely not what happened to me. Stacey is very knowledgeable and sometimes hearing stuff like "FL is a no fault state" or "FL is a 50/50" state were difficult pills to swallow in my case. However, Stacey educated me when I had questions, never rushed me when I was on the phone with her and was honest in what I could / should expect. I'm only giving Stacey and her team 4 stars because communication was a bit rough. Sometimes it would be days before I received a response to an email and / or trying to set up a conference call with Stacey. They're a small team so I gave them a lot of grace and I did feel confident with Stacey handling my case. I'll definitely hire Stacey again if I need to have her reopen my case. Thank you ladies!
