  I do not recommend Durango Family Law in any form or fashion. Lack of professionalism, lack of communication, simple lack of empathy. As any locals in the Durango area know services are limited and can take many months to even receive a call back—Durango Family Law is no different. Apparently they do not need our business. I have taken on the immense responsibility of caretaking for my adult nephew who struggles with paranoid schizophrenia. If you have dealt with a family member with this disease, you know how heart wrenching the process of helping them navigate behavioral health or any systems and resources can be. Everything is a long drawn out process- in a very broken system. I understand understaffed and overworked professionals in these organizations. I truly do! Often you are a case number only and completely dehumanized. However, we did wait a long period to be even taken on as clients or contacted. Once the $4.500 retainer was made, that’s where the breakdown in simple communication and any compassion ended. It’s so unfortunate that with all the red tape and politics of most systems in this country, we even have to experience mistreatment in our small underserved communities. When we tried to get in touch with our Lawyer, she was always busy. She didn’t return phone calls, or even reach out via email. I would have understood that I would have to wait a few days or week before a conversation or meeting could occur. The lawyers assistant seemed even more unprofessional. The assistant who was always short and inconvenienced, never offered to make an apt time to speak with said Lawyer. It was just exasperation in her voice that I was asking when I might discuss the case with the lawyer that we had retained. I pray no one ever has to live or caretake for a family member that you love with paranoid schizophrenia, it’s a terribly debilitating, gut wrenching disease! Then when you try to work with the legal system and behavioral health system, even more road blocks are put into your place. I’m sorry I am stretched thin, financially struggling and mentally exhausted. I simply requested and needed information regarding a serious case for myself and disabled family member. Best of luck to anyone trying to navigate guardianship process, definitely in Durango, CO.
