I worked with Howard O. Bernstein, P.C. during a complex and emotionally charged Business dispute, and the outcome exceeded my expectations.
Howard’s strength is his pragmatic command of the law and his ability to move a case forward efficiently. He focused on leverage, timing, and real-world outcomes rather than unnecessary posturing. His approach was disciplined, strategic, and clear-eyed, which helped drive the matter toward a resolution that was more than I expected and ultimately sufficient for both sides. This case could have dragged on unnecessarily, but Howard consistently kept it moving with purpose.
I also want to specifically recognize Lindsey Harriman, Paralegal. Her patience, diligence, and professionalism were critical throughout the process. She was responsive, organized, and consistently on top of the details, which made a meaningful difference in keeping everything on track.
This team’s combined professionalism and execution are the reason we reached a fair and effective conclusion. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for results, focused, legal representation.
Howard Bernstein and his firm truly changed my life for the better. His professionalism, negotiation skills, and expertise navigated me in a way I couldn’t have done on my own.

My experience with this law firm has been horrific. The essential problem is that Mr. Bernstein, Elise Aiken, Christine Breen, Julie Lang practice outside of their areas of competence--without competence, ethics or shame. Three of those attorneys no longer work there--the place is a revolving door. Former staff attorney Robert Keating shared with me -- too late as I was already snowed in/under by Bernstein -- that he left employment with Howard Bernstein P.C. due to him having challenged Bernstein on ethical things that he was doing in his office, including having affairs with various staff members. I share this detail only because, again, a former employee of Bernstein told me this and attorneys such as Mr. Keating are under the obligation of professional standards to not repeat untruths. My experience with Mr. Bernstein literally resulted in his billing me over $100,000 for help with an HOA/First Amendment matter that would have been cursory work for actual HOA lawyers and First Amendment experts and instead of Bernstein referring me to those experts, he, with total hubris, boasted that he could handle all this. Then when I started to challenge him, he got angry and defensive. His ridiculous, one-sided legal fee contracts stipulate, I believe unethically if not illegally, that any "fee dispute" MUST GO THROUGH THE COLORADO BAR ASSOCIATION LEGAL FEE ARBITRATION PROGRAM (CBA LFAP), problematic for myriad reasons, it's a conflict of interest because he is a member of the CBA as well as the fact that they assigned an arbitrator who had experience in any of the areas of relevant law and exhibited the "Biden Effect" -- was no longer fit to be practicing law letting alone serving as an arbitrator. Bernstein quickly turned that "award" into a judgement and the initial judges on the case did not challenge or even question the fact that Bernstein had submitted to the court an unsigned version of the Award (another problem with the CBA LFAP -- incompetence and ex parte communications. Working with Bernstein's settlement company, I was forced to settle with Bernstein and the only way I could that was to sell I had to sell my property -- one in the Affordable Housing Program with the City of Boulder--which took most of the equity of my home (which resulted in my being homeless). Then, after the sale where I was provided by the title company with documents signed by Bernstein on Howard O. Bernstein P.C. letterhead documents that said, "Full Judgement Payoff," he double backed and said I "should have known" this was only a partial payment of the Judgement and that I still owed him another $25,000.00. I filed a complaint against Bernstein's collection agency Summit Collects with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau where his own collection company sided with me stating that yes, it was a FULL PAYMENT of the Judgement. I requested a hearing with the court which was granted, and a new judge had been assigned to the case, one who was actually paying close attention, where I prevailed. Again, Mr. Bernstein's actions have made me go homeless though it is a relief that I prevailed in court where his incompetence and lack of scruples was on full display.
Overcharged and under-serviced! We contacted this law firm in September 2024 for debt collection. Documents were filed in October 2024 but they did not respond to verbal and written requests for updates until December 2024 and did not provide us with any of the documents until January of this year. Our lawyer initially said this process would cost $1500. Our mistake was not getting this estimate in writing because $2500 later only half of what he said he would do was actually done. By the time our lawyer contacted us in December, he had already exhausted our retainer and we had our first invoice. He told us that, if we paid the invoice without contesting, he would file additional paperwork, but that paperwork was never filed. We learned in January the lawyer was exiting the firm and no one, not even the owner, could provide us with an update of any recent activity. I raised a question about our initial invoice, expressed concerns of being overcharged, and asked the billing rep to review my invoice. She was defensive and dismissive. Rather than reviewing the charges with us, she stated that the owner verified all of the charges were valid, he was more than generous by zeroing out a bill they sent us in error, we did not understand how law firms work, and they would be willing to defend their charges to the board. Note that at no point did I mention any intention of talking with the board. My wish is that they would have pursued our case with the same tenacity with which they defended their charges.
Great staff. Knowledgeable attorney's
