Needless to say I was completely freaking out and couldn’t believe I had to research lawyers. I searched the autism support groups on Facebook and saw that Meagan Nunez was highly recommended. They said she gives a free consultation and that she was excellent and really cared. They made me feel like maybe money shouldn’t be a concern because legal fees can be charged to the district. She was on vacation when we called but her wonderful assistant Martha got us started and set us up with a phone consultation for the next week. Mind you, I have legal insurance and I was calling them to see which lawyers they covered. The lawyers on the covered list either didn’t do special education and when they did they never called back so my anxiety was through the roof. But when Meagan called it was obvious this is not just a job to her. She genuinely cares and I could tell because what was weighing on my chest just disappeared when I spoke to her. Basically desperation and anxiety transformed into relief. She listened, she asked questions, she understood and she even told me I could email her quick questions!! While I was in the process of getting documents to her, the school changed their mind and gave my son transportation. Meagan didn’t want compensation for what I felt was more than a consultation. She deserves so much more than this google review so I’m going to other platforms to virtually shout from the rooftops. In a world that sucks sometimes it’s really nice to know that there are lawyers out there that actually want to help...even if we aren’t rich.
