I'm a Vietnam veteran who returned "home" to California in 1975 after 3+ years in S.E. Asia. The first thing I did, after my arrival, was to walk into a dealership to buy a new car. I insured it with Allstate as that's the insurance carrier my parents had always used. 5 years later, I purchased my first house, of course I insured it with Allstate. In 1989, I sold my Ca. house and relocated to Florida, where I was born and raised. I bought a house, insured it with Allstate (as well as both cars) and have lived here, in the same house, for the past 37 years.
That brings me up to the present. We've decided to relocate to Texas, where I have close family, and have built a new house that is supposed to be completed 2-1/2 weeks from now. I informed my local agent last month and she referred me to Kimberly Trammel's agency, which was the closest to my new address. Now the nightmare begins.
I called the morning of 3/11 (allowing for the FL/TX time difference). I spoke with the receptionist and asked to speak with Kimberly. I was told there were no agents in the office yet as all were running late due to "Spring Break"! Huh? Ok, I explained I have a new house and need to purchase coverage. She said she'd have an agent call me as soon as they get in. (she mentioned two names and said it would probably be one of them, whomever showed up first).
2-1/2 days passed (late afternoon of 3/13) with no call-back, so I called again and asked for Kimberly. We spoke and she informed me she'd have an agent contact me (Jim maybe?). Once a few days had passed, with no call, I was fed up and started shopping other insurance options, something I hadn't done for 51 years! I'm a firm believer in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosophy, but I now considered this experience as "broken".
Then, out of the blue, 6 days since the last conversation, I received a call (didn't catch the agent's name), but I informed him I was in my doctor's office waiting room, then was almost immediately, called into the examination room. I asked him to please give me a call back in 2 hours as I would be home then and would have all my paperwork, etc. in front of me. That was 11:00 am on 3/19. I'm writing this review on 3/31, and to date, have not heard one word from this agency! I'm assuming I never will. With packing and preparing my existing Florida house for sale, dealing with traveling between Fl & Tx while building our new house, I simply don't have the time to chase someone down and beg them to take my money for a new homeowner's policy, with wind & hail coverage, plus flood insurance, as well as coverage for two automobiles!
I have no idea where the "disconnect" occurred, but I was supposed to have a policy in place 20 days before closing to forward to the finance company. We're scheduled to close in 17 days, so I'm trying to (hopefully) firm things up with a different insurance company today ... although a bit late. Sorry Kimberly and Allstate. I tried. Multiple times.
