I’ve had so many issues with North Star Mutual to begin with. When I called their claims office, they were in a very negative mood and hardly wanted to help or take care of us. My neighbor advised me to change due to them not getting fully covered and having to fight with an appraisal to win the claim with clear damage and a discontinued existing roof and siding.
I had to wait 4 weeks before I had to reach out again to get my adjustment scheduled after I had filed a claim, and no one followed up with me until I called back again. Now I’m with a new carrier, as I’m still fighting North Star to take care of me the way the policy says.
Six of my neighbors and workers have dropped North Star for many reasons. Every case can be different, and anyone deserves the benefit of the doubt. I’m just sharing my and my relatives’ experience.

I absolutely do not recommend this insurance company.
If you’re looking for an agent who will be proactive and make you feel valued, this was not my experience.

I would give a zero but it won’t allow a lesser rating. My problem is I trusted the agent which I never should do again—- I brought my State Farm insurance policy for the agent to match to make sure I was getting a good deal— I brought my dad with and we both stressed how important it was that coverage stayed the SAME—- this meant RCV (replacement value) for the roof which post hail storm I am finding out the agent lied when I specifically asked what policy differences there were because the price was below what I was paying State Farm. He said he matched all coverages which was a straight lie now I am paying 10-15k to replace something that should have had full coverage on, especially because I asked the differences and he lied stating they were the same when really he lowered coverage to actual cash value based on depreciation.
The catch? Each company lists slightly different with their wording so research for a long time— and in this day and age have a lawyer look it over I guess as bringing a witness with doesn’t.
I will be switching back to the company that actually values their customers over lying to them to make a commission — that is behavior and business that I can not and will not support!!!!
