  As a business owner myself, I do not take writing a negative review lightly. I understand the impact a review can have on a business, and I also recognize that an individual employee does not always represent the standards an owner expects from his or her company. Unfortunately, after my experience today, I found myself agreeing with several other reviews I read regarding the level of customer service provided by this agency. I have been a customer of this agency for approximately five years and have been trying to resolve an issue involving a relatively small premium credit—roughly $200–$300. The dollar amount is not the point. The fact that I have had to continue pursuing the same issue over such a long period of time is what has been frustrating. Today, I received a call from the agency owner, David Deacon. I had hoped the conversation would be an opportunity for him to understand why a long-term customer had become so frustrated. Instead, I felt the conversation was focused almost entirely on defending the agency and explaining why he believed his staff had responded appropriately. What was most disappointing was the manner in which the conversation was handled. Mr. Deacon raised his voice, repeatedly spoke over me, and, when I became frustrated and raised my own voice, told me that I needed to “be professional.” I found that particularly troubling coming from another business owner. At no point did I feel there was a genuine effort to understand my frustration or acknowledge that, regardless of who was technically right or wrong, a customer who has been dealing with the same issue for five years deserves to be heard and treated respectfully. Ultimately, I ended the call because I was no longer willing to be spoken to in that manner. I have been in business for many years myself, and I know that customer relationships are not defined by whether a company ever makes a mistake. They are defined by how the company responds when a customer is frustrated or believes something has gone wrong. Sometimes that simply requires listening, acknowledging the frustration, and working toward a resolution rather than immediately becoming defensive. After five years as a loyal, paying customer, I expected that level of professionalism and respect. Unfortunately, that was not my experience today.
