Hunter was extremely friendly, patient and courteous, assisting with my homeowners and auto insurance policy.
That said, having maintained a near-perfect driving record for over 40 years, and successfully utilizing similar programs like Allstate’s DriveWise and Progressive’s Snapshot, I have very serious concerns regarding the "Drive Safe & Save" program at State Farm.
State Farm’s telematics are poorly calibrated for urban and suburban environments. The system frequently flags maneuvers that are not only standard, but necessary for defensive driving. To achieve a "perfect" score under suggested metrics, a driver would have to operate their vehicle with such extreme hesitation that they would become a hazard to others on the road.
I reviewed, and contested, every flagged incident on their app, and I will continue to do so, as they do not reflect poor driving behavior, but rather the reality of safe driving. By penalizing necessary braking, acceleration, and bizarrely even turns, State Farm is inadvertently (I hope) incentivizing driving that increases the risk of rear-end collisions or worse.
It's an astonishingly faulted, perhaps even dangerous program, that needs to be fixed to match the realities of driving in the Lehigh Valley, PA, or I would suspect in any urban or suburban region.
