I’ve been with Allstate for over a decade, paying for policies for my homeowners insurance and both cars. This was my first time pursuing any claim.
My car axle and control arm snapped while driving with my kids in the car. No fault, no collision, everyone was fine. Decided to use Allstate’s roadside assistance to hopefully make the insurance experience smoother. After waiting for 3 hours with my kids in 20 degree Fahrenheit weather for the tow, I ended up having to call AAA to take care of it instead. The Allstate mobile app had no helpful options and fighting my way through the phone tree to get a person ended up with a foreign call center that was neither helpful nor pleasant.
The incident happened on a Friday around noon. Having no guidance on how to proceed, I called my agent but got a recording. I tried the web chat but was told I should call the claims number. I called the claims number but was told that a team would be assigned and an adjuster would reach out to me.
By Tuesday, in the absence of any guidance or contact by Allstate, I had the car repaired, paid for and back on the road.
It wasn't until Wed evening that I received a phone call from the claims team. The adjuster who wanted to schedule an inspection of the car at the garage. I informed him that I need my car and already had it repaired and was driving it. He informed me that it probably wouldn’t be covered anyway and I should withdraw the claim.
The web chat was not able to tell me if submitting the claim would raise my insurance rates but when I heard from my agent, she told me it probably would but there is no way to know until the quote comes for my next renewal.
I will say that the process to cancel the claim was quick and easy. Full marks there.
As I’ve mentioned, I’ve been paying Allstate for all my coverage for over a decade. I get a postcard from them on the holidays, I get an email from my agents on my birthday. But when I actually needed them, when I actually needed the support and coverage I thought I had paid into for so many years, I did not feel like I was in good hands.
As a final chef’s kiss, Allstate texted me a link to submit feedback on how they did. I clicked the link and gave them my feedback. The next day, I received a link to submit feedback on how they did. I clicked the link and got an error message: sorry, I had already submitted feedback.
Today I got an email asking me to review them on Google. Here you go.
