  I was a Phil Kelahan Allstate customer for about 15 years (maybe more). I was always treated well through several cars, a boat, motorcycles, and the buying and selling of houses and felt like the customer service was very good… until I tried to leave. This year the premium quotes for my umbrella policy went through the roof - after last year my house going up significantly. I emailed Phil and asked him why. He quickly replied with a long explanation about market conditions and that corporate decides the premiums. I didn’t really want to leave but the drastic change in premiums (with no at-fault claims) forced me to shop around. I got quotes from another major carrier which was 20% lower across all my policies for the same coverage. No brainer – I have to move my business to this other major carrier – nothing personal. I emailed Phil to explain that I was moving my business, the reason why, and asking that they cancel all my policies on the effective date of the new insurance which coincided with the renewal date for two of my four policies. No reply – radio silence. Then I got emails from Allstate regarding my upcoming renewals I forwarded them to Phil, again stating that I was not renewing and hadn’t heard back from my prior email. Again, no reply. I’m sure those weren’t great messages to receive, but you don’t just ignore a longstanding customer and refuse to acknowledge their cancellation. Having received no reply from Phil, a few days before the new policies went into effect I called his office to make sure the policies would get cancelled/non-renewed. They had no record of me asking for a non-renewal/cancellation. I was told that normally the new carrier would send them binders for the new policies and that would be all they needed – otherwise they would have to send me paperwork to sign. I called the new carrier and asked them to send the binders to Allstate. They replied saying “all set”. On the day of the cancellation/non-renewal, Allstate billed my credit card for one of the policies that I had asked to non-renew. I was not my best self when I called their office about it. I guess they treat you good until they jack the premiums and force you to shop around – then they make it as painful as possible for you to leave. It’s now a few days later and they still haven’t refunded the premium to my credit card. Maybe I’ll be back with Allstate someday, but it won’t be with Phil Kelahan. 15 years of business and this is the way you are treated.

  We love Phil Kelahan’s Allstate office! We ONCE made a mistake of switching to a different company and immediately regretted our decision. We are lifetime customers now! Thank you for taking care of us for over 20 years!
