I called simply to get an insurance quote, and after calmly providing my name, birthday, and address, he asked for my social security number. I told him I didn’t feel comfortable giving that and offered my driver’s license number instead, which is commonly accepted for quoting. His response? He bluntly asked, “So are you opening a policy today?” When I replied no since I was still shopping for quotes he hung up on me mid-call. I was shocked. Of course I called back and gave him a piece of my mind, I wasn’t letting that slide. There was absolutely no professionalism or courtesy. I wasn’t rude or evasive I just wanted a quote, which is the entire point of calling an insurance company. The fact that he dismissed me and hung up just because I wouldn’t give my SSN (a sensitive piece of information) is completely unacceptable. If this is how Direct Auto treats potential customers, I can only imagine the service once you’re actually a policyholder. I hope management sees this and takes action because this kind of behavior reflects poorly on the entire company. Mind you I was customer for YEARSSSS.
