While waiting at the framing counter, I watched an associate spend a great deal of time helping the customer ahead of me, carefully using the camera system, showing multiple digital layouts, and making sure everything was perfect. I felt encouraged, expecting the same level of care. Unfortunately, my experience was very different. When it was my turn, the digital preview of my artwork was upside down and crooked, making it impossible to visualize the final result. When I pointed this out, I was told “that’s just how the camera is.” Because of this, I couldn’t confidently choose a frame. I then ordered custom matting in two colors for a 9 x 13 frame and specifically asked how wide the mat would be around my circular artwork. I was told it would be one inch all the way around. When I received the mats, I found: • An undisclosed white bevel that was never mentioned • Uneven mat widths (one side noticeably narrower than the other) • A result that didn’t match what was explained to me This wasn’t about the cost — I was fully willing to pay. It was about care, communication, and pride in the work. Especially during the holidays, people are often creating gifts that carry emotional meaning, not just a price tag. One associate kindly explained she was still in training and offered not to charge me, which I appreciated. However, the contrast between the care given to the previous customer and my own experience was disappointing. I share this in hopes it leads to better training and consistency. Hobby Lobby is capable of excellent framing service — I’ve experienced it elsewhere — but unfortunately, that wasn’t reflected here.
