Herman Landscape Service Inc was founded in 1943 by Robert L. Herman. While attending the University of Wisconsin, Bob took a job as a driver for William “Bill” McKay. He was soon selling and planting McKay Nursery stock. In 1944, he graduated from the UW with a degree in Landscape Architecture. What started out as a local one-man operation has grown into service oriented corporation serving Madison, Dane County, and southern Wisconsin. Bob retired in 1975 leaving the family business in the good hands of three sons, a daughter, a son-in-law, and many of his trusted and experienced employees. In 2007 Mr. Herman was inducted posthumously into the Wisconsin Green Industry Federation Hall of Fame. Today the third generation is making a strong appearance in the business carrying on the love of nature and making beautiful outdoor living spaces.

    Brian has been amazing to work with. He’s communicative, prompt, and kind. He works hard and his price was mid range in comparison to the other quotes we received. (Not the lowest bid, but you get what you pay for!) I would use him again and highly recommend his services!

    Got a great limestone block retaining wall for a reasonable price. Work team was really good, and the mini-bobcat driver was great. They had to navigate a narrow path around our septic tank and house to build the wall the in back. Looks even better, after a full year.

    We scheduled an initial meeting at our home with a representative to discuss a big patio remodel and backyard landscaping project. The representative never showed up and did not respond to my voice mail inquiring for a reason/miscommunication/...? My wife and I set aside time on a busy day for this meeting. It was unprofessional and irresponsible. We had received a good word of mouth recommendation. It is sad to me when a business, that probably does good work, can't or doesn't understand the importance of being organized and accountable in all aspects of a project. I never got the chance to meet them and have lost trust.
