Very disappointing experience with customer service. We recently discovered a roof leak around a vent pipe penetration. A technician servicing our furnace found water entering the attic from this area. When we inspected the roof, we noticed the vent flashing appeared to have been patched with tape — which is concerning on a roof that is only about three years old. Roof penetrations are one of the most critical waterproofing points, and this type of condition is something homeowners typically would not see until a leak actually occurs. From what we have learned, while vent boot failures can occur over time, seeing a tape patch on a three-year-old roof is a significant red flag. It suggests the issue may have been noticed previously and temporarily patched rather than properly repaired. When we contacted customer service, the only response we received was that the warranty period is two years and therefore nothing could be done. There was no attempt to review the situation, look at photos, or even discuss whether the issue could be related to installation or workmanship. The conversation essentially ended there. We are currently reaching out to management to have the situation reviewed. If we do not receive any response, we will have no choice but to continue escalating the matter. The representative we spoke with (Janice, or a name starting with J) was particularly unhelpful and dismissive. As someone who works in customer service myself and is also part of the homebuilding industry, I understand that warranties have limits. However, good customer service should at least involve reviewing a concern — especially when the roof work is only three years old and the issue involves a critical roof penetration. Situations like this are exactly why homeowners rely on builders and contractors to stand behind their work. Unfortunately, that was not our experience here. We ultimately had to schedule another roofer ourselves to prevent further damage. I would strongly recommend improving how customer concerns are handled. Even when something may fall outside of warranty, a willingness to review the issue and assist goes a long way.
