Terrible customer service from Jean Bellous!
I tried to return a Halloween item after the holiday and wasn’t aware of the return policy. I was simply looking for a manager to help explain it, especially since the item was a broken store display that I had purchased after Halloween.
Jean came around the counter with her hand raised and a poor attitude. She began speaking to my girlfriend, who politely asked if it was possible to buy a replacement. Jean then yelled, “I’m not going to repeat myself again!” while waving her hands in the air — loud enough for the entire store to hear.
At that point, I became upset because she was waving her hands in my girlfriend’s face and speaking disrespectfully when we were just trying to understand the situation. Jean immediately picked up the phone, called 911, and falsely claimed that “her life was in danger,” giving a description of us — even though we were never asked to leave.
Thankfully, her manager, Jim, was kind, understanding, and reassured us that similar situations happen often. Still, this experience was completely unacceptable. Is this really how customers are treated at the Smoketown Lowe’s? I will never return, and I sincerely hope action is taken so employees can’t make false police reports against customers asking valid questions.
My final point is that no one should ever call the police on someone and waste emergency responders' time over trivial matters. This behavior is very unprofessional and could lead to delays in their response to actual emergencies. My girlfriend and I were just being polite, and we did not deserve to be labeled as "threats," nor did we deserve the false claims made to the operator on the phone.
