At risk of sounding dramatic: beware of bringing in outside clothing for alterations at Nordstrom. And also, my garment was pretty badly botched at this location. I'm now left with only the option of chalking this up to a learning experience on my part, but, before this experience, I didn't really consider how much the consumer is on the hook for anything that could go wrong with an alterations service and end up with no recourse. I've brought a handful of clothing items into this Nordstrom location for alterations over the years (some turned out better than others), but I have never had an expensive garment rendered unusable (and honestly looking a bit hacked together) until now. Gabby did my alterations and we agreed that I wanted the shoulders taken in and a seam added down the back to slim the garment. When it was returned to me (a full 3 weeks later), the entire upper body/neck area was hacked together poorly, and now the neck hole has become so small that I cannot pull it on or off my head without an absolute struggle (as in, taking off my earrings and yanking it on/off -- goodbye to any lipstick or makeup that was on my face prior to the struggle). After it hung in my closet, unused, for a few weeks, and while it sunk in that my garment was essentially botched, I decided to take the garment back in and speak with the alterations manager, Roberto. He informed me that so much material had been taken off the garment by Gabby, with none left behind for flexibility, that even he wouldn't be able to fix it. The best that Nordstrom could do in this case was refund my alterations fee, which they did. In terms of recourse, that was about what I was expecting as a bare minimum really, but, lesson learned, and I won't be going back to this location for alterations or bringing outside merchandise in for alterations at any Nordstrom again.
