I’m giving Extra Space Storage one star based on two very concerning experiences.
My husband fell on the premises in the back area where we had our van parked after slipping on loose gravel. He was in a significant amount of pain, so I immediately went inside to let an employee know that my husband had fallen and was injured. His response was simply, “Oh, I’m sorry to hear that.” I felt as though my concern was brushed off, and since my husband was still outside in pain and needed my help, I went back to him, helped him get into the car, and we went directly to the emergency room.
We later learned that he had torn a tendon in his leg as a result of the fall. His injury was serious enough that he ultimately had to undergo surgery on his leg.
Afterward, I called several times and left messages asking for someone to contact me and requesting that an incident report be completed. I had already reported the fall in person on the day it happened. Despite the seriousness of his injury and my attempts to follow up, I received no response.
A few days later, we returned to pick up our van and discovered that it had been towed from one area of the property to another without our knowledge or permission because work was being done on the parking area. Had someone simply called us, we would have gladly moved our own vehicle. Instead, our van was placed on a tow truck and relocated without our consent. It wasn’t just our vehicle, but several other vehicles had also been moved, and other customers who were there appeared just as confused as we were.
What was particularly concerning was seeing that work was being done on that parking area shortly after my husband’s fall.
My biggest concerns are that my husband suffered a serious injury on the property that ultimately required surgery, I reported the incident immediately, and despite several attempts to follow up, no one contacted us or followed up about completing an incident report. Then, just days later, our vehicle was moved by a tow truck without our knowledge or permission.
At the very least, I expected concern and appropriate follow-up regarding an injury that occurred on the property, as well as basic communication before moving our vehicle. Unfortunately, we received neither.
