I have never left a review before, but this experience was so bad I have to share it. This Extra Space Storage location lost (potentially stole) thousands of dollars of my belongings, failed to notify me, and provided consistently poor service from start to finish. What started as a simple rental turned into overcharges, mismanagement, and ultimately missing property from my unit that was cleared out and re-listed without my knowledge. I will never use this company again anywhere in the country and strongly advise others to think twice.
In July 2025, I reserved a 10x10 unit online and scheduled my move-in. When I arrived, I had been assigned a 5x5 unit, which is only a quarter of the total square footage I reserved and paid for. There was nobody onsite to help on that day. There were multiple adjacent 5x5 units available, and while I technically could have taken four to match the space I paid for, I used three just to complete my move. I secured all three units and left.
It took multiple days to finally reach Jacqueline, the location manager. I explained the situation and asked for two simple fixes: that my account reflect I'm renting all three units and that my rate be adjusted to match the pricing of three 5x5 units (which were $13/month each at the time). She told me neither was possible and that my only option was to move everything again into an actual 10x10 at an even higher monthly rate than I originally reserved. In other words, I was already being overcharged, and the proposed solution was to charge me more.
I contacted corporate, who resolved the issue of being overcharged. But a few months later, my rate jumped by $50 to $126/month, which is a ridiculous increase, especially considering the units were still being advertised at $13/month. Again, corporate had to step in because the location would not fix it.
After repeated issues, I scheduled my move-out for 3/26/26. When I arrived, one of my units had no lock, was tagged as available for rental, and everything inside was gone. No notification. No explanation. No contact whatsoever.
I went to the office immediately, but no one was there. After moving out my remaining units, I spoke with an employee who took down my information and the details of what happened and contacted Jacqueline. The employee I spoke to was helpful, but couldn't provide much information at that moment. When I finally reached Jacqueline, she initially said she had no idea what happened and needed time to review footage. A few days later, still no answers. Two weeks passed with no follow-up; I had to call her again myself.
At that point, she informs me there are no cameras inside the storage area. She then mentioned seeing metal shavings near some units, suggesting locks may have been drilled out, but never investigated further or notified me, despite the fact that my unit had been emptied and re-listed.
At best, this is extreme negligence. At worst, Jacqueline opened my unit, cleared it out, and sold my belongings at auction without my knowledge or sending any of the proceeds. I was never late on payments. The unit was clearly marked as available, meaning the facility knew it was empty. At no point was I contacted about suspicious activity, damage, or access to my unit.
Either way, the responsibility falls on this location's management. Property was removed from a unit I was actively paying for, the unit was re-listed, and I was never informed. That is unacceptable.
The most ironic part? I chose this location because of its high ratings, many of which were specifically praising Jacqueline's customer service. That was not my experience at all.
