I was a customer here, fell behind on a balance I don't dispute, and my unit got sold at auction over a notice mailed to an old address. The whole time, this same facility had my current email and was actively emailing me. I didn't find out my unit was gone until a week after the auction.
I'll own my part. I owed the money and I hadn't updated my mailing address. Fine. But they had my working email and I was replying within minutes. One sentence. "Your unit has an auction date, pay now to stop it." That's all it would have taken, and I'd have paid that same day. Instead they sent me vague "there's an issue with your account" emails that conveniently never mentioned the one fact that mattered: my belongings had a sale date and were about to be sold out from under me.
And here's the kicker. My balance was a little over $400. They sold my entire unit for $120. It didn't even cover what I owed, so I still have a balance on top of losing everything. They torched a person's belongings for a hundred and twenty bucks rather than send one email that would have gotten them paid in full.
I'm not claiming it was illegal. I'm saying it was cold.
They had every tool to actually warn me and deliberately used the one that wouldn't. That's a choice, and they made it.
What they sold wasn't just stuff. It was my partner's late mother's handwritten recipe cards and her military mementos. Things no auction buyer wants and no money brings back. By the time I knew, it was all scattered.
Doing the legal minimum and doing right by a human being are not the same thing, and this facility should know the difference.
If you rent here, update your mailing address today, and do not for one second assume those routine account emails mean you'll get a real warning before they sell everything you own. I made that assumption and I lost what mattered most.
