We’ve gone through a full cycle with Aquafun pools from design, through construction, closing and now opening. There’s a more detailed review on each element below, but the top line is these guys are hands down the best. Easily a 5+.
Design and Consultation:
Like most folks, we checked out the big pool builders in the area at the same time we called Paul. A few things were immediately different. Paul came right out to our site before any documents were signed. Also, we never felt Paul was trying to steer us to a specific pool. Rather, he provided considerations as we entertained rectangles, mountain lake, Grecian and L shaped pools. The mindset was truly, whatever you want. Then, as we settled on our shape and what extras to add, we went back and forth with Paul several times – adding a sundeck, changing dimensions, adding and subtracting potential water features. Through it all, he always got back to us within a 24 hour period, even when he was traveling or over the weekends and before we had given him a single dollar.
Paperwork:
Once we settled on our pool, Paul sent the documentation and we signed off. His terms were 10% down, 80% at delivery of the materials to your sight and 10% upon completion, which I understand is fairly typical. One advantage I will give the big pool builders is they will complete the permitting process for you. Paul leaves that to you, but provides details of what you need to do and will help complete the docs for you as well. Is the 20% upcharge of the big builders worth that? Up to you. It was a couple hours of work for us and more daunting going in then the actual experience turned out to be.
He'll also instruct you to get in touch with subs who will do the fencing, electric and concrete. Don’t worry, he has recommendations and we were generally pretty happy with these subs.
Site Construction:
This is such an exciting part of the process. All of the big pool stores were indicating 4 weeks plus, and that was what we remembered from when we built a pool at another home several years ago. Not the case here. Bill and his team came out and had the pool completed in 2 weeks. It was so exciting as each day you could see progress being made. And let me tell you, these guys bust their butts.
At this time, you’ll also be working with those subcontractors. As I said, they were generally pretty good. As an example, we had a slight issue with the concrete. Bill and his team had the concrete sub come out and repour a section at no cost to us.
Pool Use:
Paul and Bill made sure to give us a complete run down on the equipment, including a couple of surprises that we had no idea they were giving to us. They were patient answering questions. One thing I want to mention here that we really appreciate a year in is the extras that you get in the equipment package. There's a lot that Aquafun provides that would be considered extras and upgrades for the big pool stores. There are things like monitoring and changing your water temperature through the app that make a difference in terms of keeping up and enjoying your pool a lot easier.
Pool Closing:
Aquafun provides the first opening and closing as part of the overall package. Bill and Alex came out and closed our pool for us. Bill gave pointers as to how to maintain the filters and great ideas for storing the pool equipment for spring.
Pool Opening:
Paul told us to give a call about 2 weeks prior to when we wanted the pool opened. We were in touch in mid April and indicated any time after May 1st. During the first week in May he contacted us and told us the date they would be out. No one needed to be home for this one and the guys that came out were quick and efficient.
Summary:
Overall great experience. Having a pool is really like having a mini vacation in your backyard. We’re so happy we took the leap and we are so glad that we went with Aquafun. You can’t go wrong with them!
