- MHmarlene harkcomSep 24, 20262.0Hobby lobby has some really nice people in it. I've never talked to any workers that I didn't think were knowledgeable and nice. On Saturday I went to Hobby lobby because I was trying to work on a project and realized that my rotary cutter needed a new blade. So off to Joanne's.. I mean Hobby lobby I go. I go back and find fiskars titanium rotary cutter blades - a two pack for $20. I grabbed those and since they happened to be hanging above the cutting mats, I decided to look at those as mine had developed a pretty significant warp. I picked up a large fiskars self-healing cutting mat and it was $62. This thing is like 3 ft by 2 ft or something along those lines. I looked online and Walmart had the exact same one listed for $32. I figured that was some weird misprint online or something so I ran over to Walmart. Sure enough. The exact same cutting mat for $32! Then I looked up above it and there was a two pack of fiskars platinum rotary blades for $9.98. so I may go to Hobby lobby occasionally from now on in order to get seasonal clearance items. But I will never go back there to buy any supplies. Those markups wouldn't even be taken care of by a 40% off coupon. And... Why should I need to use a 40% coupon when I can shop somewhere that has their normal prices that much cheaper. Hobby lobby is just such a cluttered mess to me. I can go there three times in a row and have the object I'm looking for be in a different place each time. They're trying to appeal to too many different kinds of crafts and to give each of those different kinds of Crafters a wide variety of things to choose from and it just makes for an absolutely hectic visit. The only thing that Hobby lobby and Michaels do for me is remind me of how much I miss Jo-Ann's! On a previous visit , there was an older woman who cut some material for me. I just needed a quarter of a yard of eight different bolts of material. I've never seen it take that long for anyone to cut material before! While she was helping me, someone was in line and someone else came to help them. That other person needed six lengths of material cut from six bolts. And she was making something fairly large so she was getting significant amounts of material. He was able to help her and get everything put back where it needed to be in the time it took my person to do my eight pieces of material. The entire time that the other person was waiting behind me, she kept looking up at them and giving them annoyed looks as though to say how rude it was of me to be getting such little pieces of material.
