I’ve been using Extra Space Storage in Long Island City for a while now, and it’s been a great experience. The facility is always clean, well maintained, and I always feel like my belongings are safe and secure.
The staff is always friendly, professional, and willing to help. The young lady at the front desk is especially welcoming and makes the whole experience easy whenever I stop by.
I definitely recommend this location if you’re looking for a clean, reliable storage facility with great customer service.

Life Storage, the original facility
I begin storage when it was named Life Storage and my unit was $95 per month for several years.
The rent did increase about every 6 months or so. which I found to be pretty common among storage facilities.
Here is the kicker, When Extra Space bought the facility from Life Storage they increased the rent by 45% for all renters.
To their credit they did send out an email to all renters that the fee would increase by 45% when they took over.
Most storage units do raise the fees after 3 to 6 months of being at the facility. But 45% really kicked my ass.
When I heard this I wanted to move out immediately but unfortunately the year that Extra Space took over the facility New York had a brutally cold winter and it really was just too cold for me to move all of my stuff out.
It's warmer now and I will be out at the end out the end of this month.
That being said Extra Space and Life are both great storage facilities. But beware rents at any storage facility will begin to rise after the 6 months or so.
When I started with Life Storage I paying $95 a month.
This months rent, that Extra Space is charging me,
is $205 per month. I started at $95 per month and now pay $205 per month.
I immediately began moving my thing out. The winter they made the increase as bruttally cold so I am not going to be out until August. mediat increased by fee by 45%.My only issue the incredible price increase that occurred
