Doors are always broken at Extra Space Storage. Have used this location and the other one over the years. Paid premium for floor access and to be close to the front door as a female. I go in the office because the door right next to my unit is broken, has been for a week and it is equally close to the office. (the other way in is through a car gate on the other side of the building, not necessarily safe nor has security.) Today, I had a major altercation with (come to find out later) the area manager Robin. The dispute was over the fact that Robin was sitting there during business hours playing on her phone with the door locked trying to ignore me asking to get in. She finally opened it up and asked me "what do you want". I just want to access my unit that is right here. She goes on to complain that she is on lunch break (2:30PM middle of the store open hours) and everything escalated. I am a paying customer trying to access my unit. I later then call the location to find the manager who claims Robin is his boss. He then proceeds to evict me from the unit and tell me I need to know how to talk to people. Customer service is a massive issue at these places once you start highlighting the issues. Plus they have no issue increasing your rent every three months, despite access being always a problem. Corporate complaint, connect with district leadership and BBB are next up.
(I used to rent at the one down the street by the highway. The garage doors were always broken and broken for weeks and months at a time. The rent always kept increasing though.) Buyer beware.

The process is fairly simple. My only concern is how these units are marketed with some unknown rate increase that will occur in a few months. It would more fair if the unit price was fixed for a 12 month period with a known percentage increase after that. The way it is renters are left with this unknown condition that could adversely impact them. People are way more comfortable knowing a 12 month expense like this.
