  We've had the most pleasant experience with Extra Space. Since my family had been storing our extra items here we have had the help of a young man named Kevin. I don't know if he's a manger or not, but if he isn't then he should be. He's always glad to see me or my family. Always helpful if I forget my code or any billing questions we have. We had to change the size of our unit and he made it so easy. This young man deserves a raise.

  I came here to put away my great grandmas belongings after her passing and the customer service was exceptional. Joy was so sweet and kind. She was a great communicator by explaining how everything works since it’s my first time and I really appreciated her patience!

  Have rented from here for three years, they have been great but even more so the past few weeks because we bought a house! Joy has been so kind and helpful with the move out and has been making the transition smooth. Thank you for keeping our things safe while we searched for our forever home!

  I originally left a 5-star review because the property manager made a genuine effort at customer recovery after I was shocked by a very large price increase, more than $100 per month, after I had only been renting the unit for about three months. The manager was able to reduce the increase by approximately $40 per month and also submitted a request for an additional reduction that would have brought the increase down by roughly another $50. I believed that request had a reasonable chance of being approved, but ultimately it was denied by whoever at Extra Space Storage has the authority to make that decision. I am typically not a negative reviewer, but raising the monthly price by more than $100 after a customer has been there for only three months feels like a bait-and-switch pricing strategy. You rent the unit at one price, move your belongings in, and then receive a substantial increase once moving everything somewhere else has become inconvenient. In my opinion, that is a poor business practice and something prospective customers should be aware of when considering the advertised rental price. I want to be very clear that the person at the location gets high marks from me. They were professional, tried to help, and even personally called me with the final decision. My 1-star rating is not a reflection of the property manager or the service I received at the location. It reflects Extra Space Storage's corporate pricing practices and the decision to impose such a significant increase after only three months.

  RUN from this location! Horrible experience with the District Manager, Raymond and store manager, Kevin (now transferred). I have been a long-time customer of extra space (multiple locations) due to ease of service and the previous staff being so customer focused. After calling in for the first time ever, to get assistance from new staff with my payment method I had difficulty with the new management team. Specifically, the manager (kevin) was extremely rude in our dealings and he blatantly told me that he wasnt going to understand me/where i was coming from because we have different perspectives. Im pretty sure the job entails some customer service skills…like empathy. After our phone conversation he began sending threatening email(s) to me that he was not renewing my lease unless I emailed a photo of my ID because i supposedly dont have my Id on file, which i did provide the number at commencement of my original leases (years before he arrived) and it was confirmed by another employee that a copy is NOT REQUIRED to be emailed. I also informed the assistant manager, that it should be on file but possibly attached to my old unit number. A phone call about payment method turn into much bigger issues and someone else’s phone # being entered into my account without my consent, my ID number mysteriously no longer being on file, then threatening emails? My guess: employment discrimination. When i contacted the manager to confirm receipt of his email, i informed him what career field i was in and how that causes me to miss phone calls/voicemails, encouraging the staff to send emails for quickest response so that i can call in between work. When i told him this about my job his toned shifted and he got even more stern with me. Since then, I received the threatening emails and so it seems he has disguised following “policy” for abusing what little authority he has because he simply does not like me or my job. I didn’t want to deal with that type of environment/treatment so I called another extra space to inquire about moving to their location and what their policies were. That employee (Dan) asked about my bad experience at Maple Shade and I was hesitant to discuss due to retaliation but I explained everything to him. He told me he could escalate it to the District Manager and I advised that I wasnt comfortable with that if it was the same DM because I feared retaliation. He told me that was his only option and that I could call a corporate number but he didnt have faith that would help. I gave in & trusted him to escalate the issue of feeling like I was being intimidated, attacked, and retaliated against because he seemed truly empathetic and concerned. However, after it was escalated I received an even more threatening email from the DM, (Raymond). He accused ME of harassment and threatened legal action. (They would not have won because i recorded all phone calls which were all service related calls and replies to emails I received when staff couldnt get in touch via phone as well as my phone call with Kevin where i only stated why i couldn’t answer phone calls) Instead of wasting my time on these type of people, I immediately removed my belongings and moved to a smaller/private owned storage facility that cares about people and dont use intimidation or manipulation against their renters. On my move out day, it was confirmed by an extra space employee that all the bad treatment was done intentionally from Kevin and Ray out of “boredom” and because I pushed an issue with my payment/refund And that there was NO “audit” These 2 seem bad for business and in my experiences they’re attempting to abuse what little athority they have. Using intimidation and threats to force me into emailing sensitive info is extremely unprofessional and unethical. I was not given the option to come in person or confirm my ID number by phone. Because of the discrimination, intimidation, harassment, and the manipulative use of policy i will be following complaints with NJ Division of Consumer Affairs, BBB, and Extra Space Corporate Office.
