I initially had a very positive experience with this company when I hired them for a tree trimming job, so I felt confident hiring them again for a large landscaping project scheduled for 04/22. Unfortunately, this experience turned into an ongoing and frustrating situation due to incomplete work, poor communication, and lack of accountability.
The scope of work included a full spring clean-up, raking the property, weed/feed and seeding, cleaning all flower beds, installing filter fabric, 5 tons of river rock, planting boxwoods, constructing new beds, drainage stone installation, topsoil installation, removal of railroad ties, and all labor/materials.
On 04/22, only part of the work was completed. While they did install the river rock, drainage stone, new beds, and some boxwoods, several major items were left unfinished, including:
Weed/feed and seeding
Topsoil installation in low areas
Cleaning out the backyard flower bed
Additionally, railroad ties were removed that were not supposed to be removed.
On 04/24, I received a call requesting final payment, despite the project not being completed. It became clear that the office was not even aware the work was unfinished. Later that day, someone returned to the property, but instead of addressing the unfinished work, they simply added additional boxwoods that were never part of the original quote.
That evening, I called to explain that the weed/feed, seeding, and backyard flower bed cleanup still had not been done. Andy insisted the seeding had been completed, which was simply untrue. When I questioned how seed could have been applied over existing mulch, the conversation became defensive. Despite me repeatedly offering to continue the conversation another time because he was out to dinner with his wife, he chose to continue the call and ultimately hung up on me, saying his wife was upset he was “dealing with this.”
Over the next several days, I made repeated attempts to resolve the situation professionally:
I called the office requesting a callback.
I sent messages through their portal.
I followed up by text multiple times.
Most messages either went unanswered or resulted in promises that workers would return “the next morning” or “that afternoon,” only for nobody to show up.
When someone finally returned on 05/02, the work was done carelessly. Seed was lightly thrown over fresh topsoil, mulch in the flower bed was simply covered with dirt, and the yard still was not properly seeded or cleaned as agreed upon.
What is most disappointing is not just the incomplete work, but the way the situation was handled. Instead of taking responsibility and correcting the issues, I was met with defensiveness, excuses about being “stretched thin,” and pressure for payment before the job was complete.
I ultimately paid the final bill because I had recently experienced a death in my family and no longer had the time or energy to continue going back and forth. However, I absolutely do not feel the work performed justified the price paid, nor was the project completed as promised.
This was an extremely disappointing experience after such a promising first impression. I cannot recommend this company based on the lack of communication, professionalism, and failure to complete contracted work properly.
