I want to start this off by giving a disclaimer that I have never given a bad review and I have the utmost respect for small businesses as my family has owned and operated one in Georgia since the 90's. Running one is hard work and there's a ton of moving parts. Despite this I cannot help but warn others of my experience of this business in contracting a basic cleaning of my dryer vent. If all else grab some popcorn while you read for entertainment.
I rent from Town and Country, who contracts First Choice Services for cleaning needs. My dryer was malfunctioning and it was determined by the maintenance guy that the vent needed cleaning. First Choice called for a date 2 weeks out which was way longer than expected but figured I could use a buddy's dryer once and be fine.
The day comes around and I get a call late in the afternoon telling me the tech came out, no one was there, and I would need to reschedule. Come to find out they had changed the time on me without me having confirmed, and the tech did not call when they arrived to let me know they were there - at the time I was only a few blocks away and could have easily let them in had they ever tried to communicate. The receptionist tells me they would try to figure out what happened and call me back. I wait 24 hours without a call back and try to call them during work hours leaving a voicemail, another 24 hours they still have not responded.
I end up calling my landlord to inform them of what's going on, and that I really need my dryer clean because at this point it's been over half a month and I still don't have a way to dry my clothes. My landlord calls First Choice to try and inform them of the issue, call me back, confirms that First Choice will be giving me a call shortly to set up a new date. 24 hours pass with no call and by this point it's the weekend and they are closed. on Monday I attempt to call First Choice. No answer. I call Landlord to inform them it's still an issue. Landlord gets with First Choice and when I hear back I come to find out that -
THE INITIAL VISIT THEY WENT TO THE WRONG APARTMENT
- and I about lose it. Landlord confirms they'll be calling me that day to fully set up the visit to get my dryer vent cleaned out at the correct address. First Choice finally gets in contact with me early afternoon Tuesday informing me of a date that is over another week out. I tell them that's not going to work, they've made multiple mistakes on their end and I'm going to need them to get my dryer fixed as it's coming up on 3 weeks without a dryer. They tell me they'll see what they can fit in and give me a call back soon... Wednesday comes around ... with no call. I get in touch one last time with my landlord at this point asking if they can contract someone else explaining my frustration and spent patience. The landlord calls back confirming a date for the next day, First Choice confirms via text. Yay.
Now we get to the present afternoon. I never get an update call from a tech about when they arrived or what they did. However at least when I got home the dryer was working. I am happy for about 15 seconds before I walk downstairs to see giant balls of dryer lint raining down on my porch and neighbors yard from the dryer exhaust point. It was obvious no one had actually ran the dryer to check the job was complete and now I'm cleaning up lint that got stuck to my porch. I wasn't even planning to write a review and just wanted to let it go but ... wow. Just wow.
To this company I have some pointers:
- When you have a customer with an issue that impacts their day to day life you make it a priority, *especially* if you're the one that made the mistake in getting it resolved.
- Boots on the ground need to communicate with the people they're serving. I didn't ever get a call from a tech and this could have been resolved instantly if that had happened.
- When you tell someone you'll get back to them ... you get back to them and promptly.
- Confirm the job and clean up after yourself. The fact I'm telling this to a cleaning company is insane.
