I stopped by the Morganton Lowe's with a shopping list that started simple and ended somewhere deep in the wilderness of plumbing fittings, adapters, valves, and "surely there must be a part for this."
The entire crew was outstanding.
Corina was helpful and friendly.
Grant not only pointed me in the right direction—he actually walked with me to find several different items. In a world increasingly filled with "Aisle 37, good luck," I appreciated the personal help. Thank you, Grant.
Brody helped me find exactly what I was looking for regarding an battery-powered specialty lawn tool. He knew the product line well, answered my questions, and got me squared away quickly.
Then there was Bob.
Before I ever met Bob, I heard about Bob.
As I explained my final plumbing project to different Lowe's employees, each person spoke about Bob in glowing terms, using different titles and descriptions that all essentially translated into: "You need to find Bob."
Eventually, Grant helped me track him down.
The funny thing is, Bob somehow managed to exceed the reputation that had already been built up around him.
My project wasn't especially complicated for a plumbing expert, but it was complicated enough for me. Bob patiently broke everything down into small pieces while I scribbled notes as fast as I could. He never rushed me. He never talked over my head. He simply combined expertise with patience, which is a rarer skill than most people realize.
One example stands out.
At one point I proudly mentioned that I at least knew how to use plumber's tape.
Bob gently explained why plumber's tape wasn't needed in this particular application, why people often misuse it, and how using it here could actually create problems rather than solve them.
That small conversation probably saved me from creating tomorrow's plumbing leak while trying to prevent today's.
By the time I finished shopping, my entire list had been checked off. I mentioned my excellent experience to Zack, the store manager.
As we were talking, I heard someone behind me chime in about Bob.
The exact quote may not have been, "Bob is off the chain," but it was something very close to that, and frankly, after spending time with him, I understood the sentiment.
The best part of this experience wasn't just Bob, though. It was the culture that Zack and the Morganton Lowe's team have clearly built. Every employee I encountered was helpful, positive, knowledgeable, and willing to take ownership of helping a customer succeed.
Thank you, Corina.
Thank you, Grant.
Thank you, Brody.
Thank you, Todd.
Thank you, Zack.
And thank you, Bob the Magnificent—legendary before I met him, and even better after I did.
A great store is built one helpful interaction at a time, and this crew has figured that out.
