I have been shopping at Lowe’s for many years and, as an interior designer, I frequently visit the paint department for both personal and professional projects. Overall, my experience with Lowe’s has always been very positive. Most associates are friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful, and as a regular customer, many of them feel like family.
However, over the past six months, I have had several interactions with an associate named Racheal in the paint department that have been disappointing. This is not something I experienced only today, it has happened many times with her. Whenever I have questions related to paint products or paint selection, she seems unwilling to assist and often avoids helping. Because of this, I usually seek help from other associates.
Today, I asked for a little assistance regarding paint, and she told me, “No, You pick the color; our job is just to mix the paint.” I was surprised by this response, as I have never experienced this level of unwillingness to help from other Lowe’s employees.
I am not expecting anything in return, but I wanted to share my experience in hopes of improving customer service for future customers. A little kindness, guidance, and willingness to help can make a big difference. Unfortunately, after this interaction, I chose to take my business elsewhere.
Please understand that my concern is not about today alone, but about a pattern of interactions that I have experienced over multiple visits.

Can never reach the flooring department. Policy confusion between departments. Terrible communication.
We've taken to working with our local Lowe's in NC to manage work we need done at our SC rental because this Lowes location is impossible to work with.

I was extremely disappointed with my Lowes experience. My business spends more than $25k per year a Lowes, so I have ups and downs but today compelled me to write a review. The Lowes website advertised 96 gallon trashcans I needed for $114. They were also advertised at the orange competitors store for $129. The Lowes near my house did not have 3 trash cans I needed so I drove 25 min each way to get them from this store. Upon arriving at the check out (which is self check out only), the trash cans rang up at $129. I called for some help, I was told by 2 different self check out helpers that they could not help me, that was the website price. They said I could order on the website and come get them in a few days. So I said, why dont I just buy these and yall get the website inventory brought here? The told me there was no way they can do that. I explained that their website was showing me the price and I had driven nearly and hour round trip versus buying the same trash cans at Home Depot (less than a mile from my house). They assured me they could not help and also started getting annoyed that I was not taking "no" for an answer. The referred me to customer service, she was less help and seemed annoyed to even be talking to me about this. She had no empathy or understanding. She even suggested it was my fault for thinking I could get the same price on the "Lowes" website at the story. It was quite a shocking experience. I left and bought the trashcans for $129 from Home Depot. I know that my purchase doesnt move the needle for Lowes, but it is really disappointing that the "customer service" folks really can't help or serve. I see why robots will have their jobs soon.
