Frank was quick and professional! I called him, texted him a photo of the stump in my yard, he gave me quote and was out to my house in a couple days. He took out the stump and charged me exactly what he quoted me. Couldn’t have asked for better. He also helped me with some landscaping in my front and backyard. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask! He can even give you good restaurant tips too!

Frank did an amazing job at my elderly mothers property while I was aboard. She’s still raving about him.
Frequently Asked Questions About Always Grinding stump removal
What's the difference between stump grinding and stump removal?
Stump grinding chips the stump down below ground level, leaving roots in place, while stump removal extracts the entire stump and root ball from the ground. Grinding is faster and less invasive, but removal provides complete site clearing. At Always Grinding stump removal, we help you choose based on your project needs.
How deep does stump grinding go into the ground?
Professional stump grinding typically goes 6 to 12 inches below ground level, which is sufficient for grass or landscaping. This depth removes visible wood and allows soil to be filled over the area. At Always Grinding stump removal, we adjust depth based on your intended use of the space.
Can you grind large stumps over 4 feet wide?
Yes, professional equipment can handle large stumps including 4-foot and 5-foot stumps with extensive root systems. These require heavy-duty grinders and more time to process completely. Always Grinding stump removal uses professional-grade equipment designed for stumps of all sizes in the Greensboro area.
What happens to the wood chips after stump grinding?
Wood chips are typically left on-site and can be used as mulch in landscaping or spread over the ground area. You can also request removal if you prefer a clean site. The chips decompose naturally over time and enrich the soil.
When should you remove a tree stump after cutting down a tree?
Stumps can be removed immediately after tree cutting or months later, depending on your schedule and budget. Fresh stumps are easier to grind but waiting doesn't significantly impact the process. Removing stumps promptly prevents pest infestations, root sprouting, and tripping hazards on your property.
How long does it take to grind a typical tree stump?
Most residential stumps take 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on size, wood hardness, and root spread. Larger stumps over 3 feet wide or those with extensive root systems require more time. At Always Grinding stump removal, we assess each stump individually for accurate timing.
What's the biggest mistake people make with stump removal?
Many homeowners try DIY removal with inadequate equipment or chemicals, which is time-consuming, dangerous, and often ineffective. Professional equipment grinds stumps safely and completely in a fraction of the time. At Always Grinding stump removal in Greensboro, we use certified arborists and proper equipment for safe results.
Do stump roots continue to grow after the tree is cut?
No, roots stop growing once the tree is removed, but they decay slowly over several years underground. Some species may produce shoots from remaining roots if the stump isn't ground. Grinding or removing the stump prevents regrowth and accelerates the natural decomposition process.
Can stump grinding damage underground utilities or sprinkler systems?
Yes, grinding can damage buried lines, pipes, or irrigation systems if not located beforehand. Professional services locate utilities before work begins to avoid costly damage. Always Grinding stump removal assesses the site and identifies potential obstacles before grinding any stump in the Greensboro area.
Is full stump extraction necessary for construction or building projects?
Yes, construction and development projects typically require complete stump and root ball removal to ensure stable ground and proper grading. Grinding alone leaves roots that can interfere with foundations or utilities. Always Grinding stump removal provides full extraction services for lot clearing and construction site preparation.
How does North Carolina clay soil affect stump removal?
Clay-heavy soil in Greensboro and surrounding areas can make root systems harder to extract and may dull grinding equipment faster. However, professional grinders are designed to handle dense soil conditions. The clay also holds stumps firmly, requiring more power for complete removal or grinding.
What tree stumps are hardest to grind in North Carolina?
Hardwood species like oak, hickory, and maple common in North Carolina are denser and take longer to grind than softwoods. Stumps with wide, deep root systems also require more time and equipment power. At Always Grinding stump removal, we're equipped to handle all local tree species efficiently.
