Did you ever have a place that filled you with complete dread every single time you went there? The Extra Space Storage on Wallace Lane in Charlotte, NC was that place for me.
Our unit was on the second floor of the facility, which houses two freight elevators. Most of the time, we played a game of “which elevator is working today?” And the answer rarely was “both.” One time it was “neither.” Which meant that our unit was basically inaccessible that day and we made a trip there for nothing.
Among my other “favorite experiences?” The time when there wasn’t enough carts and I had to use one that had no handle (my back loved that). Also, the time someone parked out back (where I was also parked) and never got out of their car, but stayed the entire time I was there unloading my car by myself. That was creepy. Oh, and let’s not forget that there are no bathrooms in the facility if you need one, and there are times when there is no staff, even during business hours, to address your concern. A message my husband left during the “no elevators are working at all” incident went unreturned, which was not surprising at all.
Also, facility itself is NOT clean. There are no trash cans accessible to renters. So, people frequently left items in the hallways that they (apparently) did not want. My favorite was (what appeared to be) a futon mattress upstairs by the elevator. And you had to watch your tires in the lots, as there is frequently debris from items others have dropped and broken left scattered around.
If you like yourself and value your time and money, do yourself a favor and rent a unit somewhere else. If you absolutely MUST rent here (and you don’t, there are a million other places to rent a storage unit in Charlotte), pay the extra money and get a first floor unit.
