I am extremely disappointed with the customer service I received from Virginia at the paint counter at approximately 3:20 p.m. on August 5.
Before approaching her, I had been patiently waiting because she had several customers ahead of me. I already had my paint color selected and was simply trying to ask a question about which product or finish would be the best option for my garage. I wanted to make an informed decision and avoid spending unnecessary money on the wrong product, especially since paint can be expensive and the item I needed was located behind the employee-only area.
Because customers are not authorized to reach behind the counter or retrieve those products themselves, I needed assistance from an associate. Instead of answering my question professionally or calmly explaining my options, Virginia began raising her voice and yelling at me in the middle of the store.
Her tone and behavior were completely unnecessary and extremely embarrassing. I had waited my turn, I was not being disrespectful, aggressive, or unreasonable, and I was only asking a simple question before making a purchase. I have never experienced an employee yelling at me simply because I asked for help understanding a product.
The situation became uncomfortable enough that another associate attempted to get a manager for me. Unfortunately, that associate was unable to continue assisting me because she was required to remain at the customer service desk. I appreciate that she recognized the situation needed management attention, but I was disappointed that no manager was immediately available to address Virginia’s behavior or hear my concerns.
There is absolutely no reason a customer should be spoken to in that manner, especially in front of other customers and employees. Virginia’s behavior was unprofessional, disrespectful, and did not reflect an acceptable level of customer service. Employees working directly with the public should be able to answer questions, provide assistance, or respectfully direct customers to someone else without yelling or creating a scene.
I came into the store prepared to make a purchase and was simply trying to ensure I selected the right product for my garage without wasting money. Instead, I left feeling embarrassed, frustrated, and uncomfortable.
Management should review what occurred, speak with the employees who witnessed the interaction, and take the appropriate steps to ensure that no other customer is treated this way. Customers should feel comfortable asking for assistance, particularly when the merchandise they need is located in an area they are not permitted to access.
I hope this complaint is taken seriously and that additional customer service training and accountability are put in place. No customer should be made to feel humiliated simply for patiently waiting their turn and asking an employee for help.

We stopped by Lowe’s on a mission for one very specific item: electronics flux. Unfortunately, they didn’t have it… but they did have just about everything else!
The store was spotless, well organized, and easy to navigate. Every employee we encountered was genuinely friendly and happy to help, even when the answer to my husband’s oddly specific request was, “Sorry, we don’t carry that.”
You know a store is doing something right when you leave empty-handed but still in a good mood. We’ll just blame my husband’s incredibly niche shopping list and not Lowe’s. We’ll definitely be back… hopefully next time for something a little less obscure!
