Mosquito & Tick Away

Female mosquitoes deposit hundreds of eggs every few days near or on water. The eggs hatch within 48 hours, producing larvae that live in water and surface to breathe. Larvae molt four times, growing larger after each molt. The pupal stage follows, lasting up to four days. Adult mosquitoes emerge, focusing on mating and feeding. Male mosquitoes live 3-5 days, while females can survive for 1-2 months.

Ticks progress through four life stages over three years: egg, larvae, nymph, and adult. Most ticks feed on three different hosts during this time. Larvae feed on small animals, then become nymphs. Nymphs seek a second host in spring. In fall, adult ticks look for a third host. Female ticks survive winter, lay eggs in spring, and then die, completing the lifecycle.

Fleas undergo four life stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Females lay 4-8 eggs that hatch in 1-12 days. The larval stage lasts 4-18 days, followed by the pupal stage, which can last from 3 days to a year. Upon emerging as adults, fleas begin searching for food. Warmer weather typically accelerates their development to adulthood.
