I bought a $4000 Ariens mower from this Lowes location. When it was delivered it was rolled off a truck and pushed to my garage. They didn't have me sign anything, there was no paperwork delivered and they were gone before I really had a chance to look at it.
On some review I found a screw and a bolt on my driveway that fell off the mower. The bolt was to the negative battery terminal. I never did figure out where the screw goes. The mower was rusty in spots, it had clearly been left either outside or in unconditioned space for some time. The front "bumper" was also dented. Of course the deck was all misaligned and I spent an afternoon getting that set right.
I'm really not particularly fussy and these things seemed OK as long as everything worked and it did, for about a month. At a month in I noticed there was an oil leak, slow, but enough to begin coating everything with oil. Also, on occasion the mower would not start. And if all that wasn't enough I notices one of the brakes on the bottom was held on by a paper clip. Yes, a paper clip.
I called Lowes, I visited Lowes, I called Ariens and no one was really of any help. Their only advice is for me to have it towed to a service center, at my expense, for warranty service. So, that's what I did and now I'll be without my mower, in the middle of mowing season, for 2-3 weeks (or longer?)
The lesson here is never, ever, buy mowers from Lowes. They don't know how to put them together, they don't actually service them, they don't know how to help if you have a problem and everyone will wash their hands of it the second after it is delivered. I have my fingers crossed the warranty service goes well at a local dealer.
I do generally like Lowes but this is my largest single purchase from them and they dropped every ball. They should not sell large mowers at all in my opinion.
