- TTThunderHeartJul 6, 20262.0Action Lock and Key replaced my garage entry door handle and lock. A short time later the door handle is loose and the 2 screws securing the 2 door handle turn knob pieces to each other are so deeply imbedded into the door handle mechanism as to be unreachable with a regular phillips screwdriver. The garage door is 1 3/4 inches think so that may be the problem if a door handle was installed that only fits a 1 1/2 thick door. Guess I'll have to find out and repair it myself. Maybe just install a new door handle from Menards or Home Depot. Reducing my original review from 5 stars to 2 stars (instead of 1 start) as the installer was at least pleasant. Disappointing ;-( From AI question and answer regarding this issue: Q: "If we try to install a door knob lock set meant for a 1 1/2 inch door on a 1 3/4 inch think door will it fit properly and lock down tight ?" A: "A “1 1/2 inch” door knob/lockset is designed around a specific door thickness range. If your door is 1 3/4 inch, the latch/strike hardware won’t match the thickness correctly, so you can end up with one or more of these issues: 1. The latch won’t sit flush or will be under/over-inset. 2. The exterior/interior knob assemblies may not tighten down properly. 3. The lock may feel loose, have gaps, or the latch alignment may be off (which can affect locking/closing reliably). 4. You may not get the correct screw/latch engagement or full clamping.
