  I had a disappointing experience at World Market that highlights outdated systems and poor customer service. I attempted to return an item in its original condition after misplacing the receipt. The store was able to look up the exact product and confirm the exact price I paid, yet still insisted on issuing store credit for less than 20% of the purchase price. Their policy states that without a receipt, customers receive store credit for the lowest selling price in the last 60 days. However, when a store can clearly verify what a customer actually paid and still refuses to honor it, that’s not policy — that’s a choice. It reflects a lack of flexibility and a lack of respect for the customer’s time and money. The register system is outdated, the process is rigid, and the outcome was unreasonable given the information they had in front of them. Buyer beware: if you shop here, keep every receipt, because even when they can see the real purchase price, they may still choose to give you a made‑up “lowest price” value. I have never seen a furniture item in this store selling for $20, yet that’s the number they tried to use. No wonder they are going out of business.

  Today we experience the most racist and passive aggressive retail experience ever! We asked to try on garments, and a sales associate told us we’re have to go home and try it on, and thereafter, bring it back if it didn’t fit. We asked a manager, and she allowed us to use their restrooms to try on clothes. We’re coming out of the restroom, and thereafter white male associate Edward asks, “So, you’re gonna do it anyway?!” He then goes on to roll his eyes and shake his head. The rest is history: it went from wanting to support a “global store” to the cops being called by managers, including a Latinx Sophia, and asking that we never return to the store. Trash!
