I am genuinely disgusted by my experiences at the Bridgeview Hobby Lobby. I’ve been to practically every Hobby Lobby within 100 miles of where I live, I LOVE shopping there, and I’ve easily spent thousands of dollars with this company. I have never experienced anything like what happened at this location.
I have only been to this location twice, and BOTH times my boyfriend and I were literally followed around the store. I’m not talking about employees simply being nearby or checking if we needed help. They were actively looking for us. I could be all the way in an aisle toward the back of the store, and employees would come looking through the aisles, spot us, stare at us, whisper into their walkies, and then continue following us. It was so obvious that it became extremely uncomfortable.
At one point, I literally watched a female employee walk up behind my boyfriend and try to move around him just to get a look at his face. She had her head cocked trying to see him, and the second I turned around and caught her doing it, she looked startled and immediately walked away without saying a single word. That is NOT normal customer service.
And what makes this even more disturbing is that we were the only Hispanic customers in the store while the employees and the overwhelming majority of the customers were white. Nobody else appeared to be getting this treatment. If an employee wanted to check whether we needed help, they could have simply asked us. Instead, we were followed, watched, stared at, and monitored throughout the store.
I don’t casually throw around the word “racist,” but after experiencing this TWICE at the same location, it is extremely hard not to believe that we were being singled out because we are Hispanic. We were treated like we had done something wrong simply for walking into the store.
I absolutely love Hobby Lobby, which is what makes this experience even more upsetting. But I will never spend another dollar at this location. Management seriously needs to address the way customers are being treated here, because making people feel targeted and unwelcome based on how they look is completely unacceptable.

Extremely frustrating experience at the Hobby Lobby in Bridgeview.
I came to this store specifically because the Hobby Lobby website showed that they carry the rice paper I was looking for. I spent about 30 minutes walking around the store trying to find ONE simple product.
During that time, I asked FOUR different employees for help.
One person told me it was in Art Supplies. Another sent me to the back of the store. Another basically told me, “If it’s not there, then we probably don’t have it,” and had no idea where it would be. Finally, I went to the register and showed the employee the exact item on Hobby Lobby’s website, including the item number, thinking she could simply look it up in the computer and tell me whether it was in stock or where it was located.
Nope. Still no help.
So I have to ask: do the employees actually know anything about the store they work in? Am I supposed to get a job there myself just so I can figure out where the merchandise is?
What made it even more frustrating was seeing employees standing around at the registers while customers were trying to get help, and one employee walking around with a cart without ever actually assisting me.
I completely understand that an employee may not know where every single item is located. But FOUR employees, and not ONE person could check the product number, verify inventory, or find someone who actually knew?
That is not customer service.
If your website tells customers that you carry a product, your employees should at least be able to look it up and help locate it. Customers should not have to spend half an hour wandering around the store being sent from one department to another while employees shrug their shoulders.
Very disappointing. I left without the product and with the feeling that nobody in this store was interested in helping at all.
