They think of everything and you will not be disappointed. Yes, it is not cheap but you will not be disappointed because you get what you pay for in a job well done. My visit to Wagner Nursery went very well. I spoke with Allison on replacing Standing Ovation Little Bluestem Grass. She provided good info on it. When the time was right I did replace the dead one. On another visit Quinn Wagner provided me good info on a our Limelight Hydrangea Tree that had some dead branches and bark that was peeling. Very good info from both.

I bought a tree a few years ago and recently had a couple of questions about care. Dorothy was very helpful and informative. Appreciate all the help I can get.

Great selection on hand but, three times more expensive than any other within a two hour drive.

Allison at Wagner Nursery has been incredibly friendly, responsive, and genuinely helpful throughout my lawn renovation project. She took the time to offer thoughtful and honest advice without trying to oversell anything, and she was the only nursery in the area that provided meaningful guidance when I reached out with questions. Her willingness to explain options, share practical recommendations, and support my project made a big difference. I truly appreciate the customer service and will continue choosing Wagner Nursery because of the outstanding experience Allison provided.

Frequently Asked Questions About Wagner Nursery, Inc.

When should I prune my shrubs?

Spring-flowering shrubs like lilac and forsythia produce blooms on the previous season's growth, known as old wood. For these varieties in Dubuque, IA, pruning should occur immediately after flowering finishes. This timing provides the summer months for establishing the growth necessary for next spring's blooms. Summer-flowering shrubs such as potentilla and spirea produce blooms on the current season's growth, called new wood. These shrubs should be pruned in late fall following a hard frost or during very early spring. They will then flower in summer on new growth developed that year. Evergreen shrubs like juniper and yew should be pruned in early to mid-April before new growth emerges. A light pruning may also be performed during midsummer if needed.

When is the best time to prune shade trees?

The optimal period for pruning most deciduous trees in Dubuque, IA, is February through March. During this dormant period, the lack of leaves provides clear visibility of the tree's structure, making it easier to identify and remove appropriate branches. Additionally, wound compartmentalization occurs most effectively just before spring growth begins. Oak trees require different timing. The preferred months for pruning oaks are December, January, and February. While deciduous trees can be pruned during other seasons with minimal adverse effects, it is best to avoid pruning when trees are producing new leaves in spring or shedding leaves in fall.
