  initially had a very positive experience with AAlpha Mini Storage. When I first moved in, the manager was welcoming, the onboarding process went smoothly, and I was genuinely pleased with the service. At that time, I rated them 5 stars. Unfortunately, less than a year later, my opinion has changed significantly. In under a year, my rental rate has increased at least twice, possibly three times. When I originally rented the unit, I came in at a low introductory rate and understood that the regular monthly rate afterward would be approximately $167. At no point was it clearly explained to me that the $167 rate was merely a temporary “discounted” rate that could later be replaced by what they call the “street rate.” After receiving another notice of an increase, I called for clarification and was told that my rate would now be based on the current street rate. That change took my monthly cost from an already expensive $167 to approximately $300 per month. Nearly doubling a customer’s monthly bill in less than a year is extremely difficult to justify, especially when there have been no obvious upgrades or added amenities. The units do not even have interior lighting, and this location is not climate controlled. I do want to be fair and mention that I did miss a payment due to my own oversight because I mistakenly believed the account had already been paid ahead. I take responsibility for that. However, that does not change my concern about the dramatic increase in the ongoing monthly rental rate. When I asked if the rate could be returned to what I understood to be my normal monthly amount, the representative told me she would speak with the manager. Instead of the manager contacting me personally to discuss the matter, I simply received a message through the representative saying that “there was nothing they could do.” The staff members I have dealt with have generally been polite, and I appreciate that. But unfortunately, polite service does not make up for a monthly bill that has nearly doubled. Ironically, my original choice was between AAlpha Mini Storage and Extra Space Storage next door. I chose AAlpha largely because of a relative’s recommendation. At this point, I regret not going with my first choice, especially since Extra Space offers climate-controlled storage, which would at least provide an understandable added value for a higher rate. My experience started out very well, but the repeated rate increases and lack of transparency regarding how those rates are determined have left me genuinely disappointed. Based on my experience today, I unfortunately cannot recommend this location.
