The units are fine, no problem with the facility although parking and loading can be cramped.
My big gripe? Price gouging. Extra Space will get you signed up with a promotional rate and then slowly increase the rate to an unreasonable rental amount.
For example, we rented a 10 x 10 for $62 per month. (Market rate was about $80 per month). Great rate, great deal. After a year, I was fine with a small rent bump to $80 or even $85 as long as the rate held in-line with market. However, they pushed it to $149! per month via a small mailer notification. I confronted the manager about this and politely asked for a market rate. They said no, so I decided to move. (these places count on you not moving.)
Now they (the owner, not Extra Space.. Extra Space is a manager of the underlying owner) will lose 100% of the rate for as many months as it takes to re-lease and also lose a great customer.
I've been in RE for 40 years so I understand maximizing a property's gross income but what is missing here [ in the back office algorithm calculus] is the cost of vacancy, re-letting, and overall good reputation.... all intangibles lost for about $40.00 per month in rate. And, how many times does this happen across the platform? Costing the owner thousands? Not smart, in my view. But I don't own it so what do I know?
Final outcome? I lease a newer unit, closer to my home, locked in a rate at $62 per month for one year. A net savings of about $800 per year... took me about 3 trips in my SUV to move the contents. So, I'm good.

There was a problem with my unit. Water got into it under the rolling door. They came and gave me another unit with no problem. Also they gave me credit for one month. The staff was outstanding.
